Which susp. do you recommed for my liking?

Right now I've got the stock sport suspension on my '00 1.8T, and I havent really thought of dropping it lately but I've got some 17" BBS RC's coming in the mail with 235/45/17 tires.

I wont be putting the wheels on til spring because I've got my winters on now so I've got a while to save up some dough and upgrade my suspension if I want. Its a DD with no intention to take it to the track, so nothing too low.

First off, will those wheels fill in a bit more of the gap between the wheel well and the tire? I want about a two finger gap (keep in mind I have small fingers).

    How wide are the wheels?

I'm running 17x8 flik's with 225/45-17 tires, here is my height on coilovers:

(the black car is running 18x8.5 wheels with Neuspeed race springs)

If I were you, I'd get Vogtland Clubsport springs and koni shocks. The vogtlands are cheap and handle well, and should get you right around the height I have (maybe a little lower). The Koni dampers are a twin tube design (compared to bilsteins monotube) which will give you a little softer ride while keeping the rebound in check.

Another option for springs would be the H&R Sport Springs if you want it a little higher.

I'm not sure how wide they are, I'm thinking I'm going to have to wait til I put them on to judge if I want new springs and shocks or not. Coilovers are a bit out of my price range from what I can see. I guess I'm just more curious if the new wheels will fill in even a tiny bit more of the gap over my stock 16's. But perhaps I'll just have to wait.

Re: Which susp. do you recommed for my liking?

I'm sorry to tell you but normally when you switch to a lower profile tire, it magnifies the amount of gap. If you're on stock non-sport suspension you WILL look like a monster truck with those wheels.

The only way to get rid of some of the gap with new tires is if you went up in size, which would slow you down (both by the 'gearing multiplier' and the added weight). Those tires/wheels are stock size so you'll have the same size gap, but it will look like the gap got bigger just because the way our eyes work i guess.
