    sport springs not low enough!!!

ok i got bilstien sport shocks installed with vogtland sport springs and am really not 100% satisfied with the ride height. Claiming a 1.4 inch drop i thought it would be in between most sport springs and def not as low as race springs. But it doesnt even look that much lower then stock sport. Im worried, becuase i was told it was going to settle and hasnt settled at all.

Fender to ground average for all 4 is 26 inches and that is not to low at all. I dont no how many inches it is for stock sport but i bet not to much higher.

    2-3 finger gap...

The ride is great and love how firm it is, but the ride height just doesnt look as low as i woulda liked it.

iv drove about 50 miles so far and was told they wont settle or they would settle a little bit in a few days, they havent settled at all.

I would figure i would be right around the same height as everybody else with eibach and h&r sport spring kits which claimer only to be in the 1.25 drop range if im not mistaken, which means my springs should have put me lower to around 25.5 at least.. From what information i have gathered before and after i lowered it it went from being a 27.25 inch average front ground to fender to a 26 ground to fender average in the front. And the rear went from being 27.1 inch average in the rear to 26 inches avg ground to fender. Thus lowering the car only 1.1 in the rear and 1.25 in front. Also my front passenger is alittle higher then my driver side. Not in the back though.. Thats how it was before and after i got my shocks.

here is the kit i bought and here is the best picture of the hieght iv been able to get so far.

Re: sport springs not low enough!!!

I could be 100% wrong, but i'm pretty sure any aftermarket "sport" spring will be ABOUT the same as a stock sport setup, minimal height differences. Also
Lowers the car approximately 1.4"; from the factory non-sport height
So basically a very minimal drop if you were already on a stock sport setup and just stiffer than oem sport suspension. I would have to measure again but a good guess from last time I measured my race springs are around the 25 1/8-1/4" mark...

Re: sport springs not low enough!!!

njm23 is right if your car was originally on a stock sport setup then the sport springs shouldnt have made too much of a difference. Because the sport springs have a very similar drop height with the stock sport springs. Coming from a non-sline car my aftermarket sport springs made a significant differnce but since yours was in stock sport suspension it shouldnt have made too much of a difference in drop height. Maybe you should consider CO's?

Re: sport springs not low enough!!!

no money for CO's. If anything down the road i would swap them out for race springs. I did not start with sport suspension. stock non sport over here. does anyone know what most people are ending up with ground to fender with sport springs. 16 just seems to high, im not even as low as bmw's with stock sport suspension. What is with many people saying it takes a few weeks for suspension to settle.

Re: sport springs not low enough!!!

I have read very contradicting posts from people on sports springs. A lot of guys claimed to be 25 1/8"-25 1/2" ground to fender on sport and one even said his settled to just under 25", but yet my race are at around 25 1/8" or so.. Doesn't add up if you ask me, must be measuring differently..idk search for ride height or ground fender height you'll see lots of threads.

exactly, I'm at 25" ground to fender with neuspeed race/bilstein sport setup.

And i think the 1.4" drop is from stock non-sport, not from the stock sport suspension. meaning it's only about and 1" lower than stock sport...

I'm 25 1/4" in the front and 24 1/2" in the back ground to fender lip.
I have stock sport struts and an unknown model H&R spring. Dunno if that's helpful to you or not.

on 18x8.5s I have mby 1 1/2 finger in the back and 2 is a tight fit in the front.

a 2 finger gap? on 25 1/4"... i cant even fit one finger into mine at 25", the tire almost tucks.

    got pics?

this is neuspeed race, THE day i installed them. they've settled even lower than that. just don't have recent pics.

No I suck and don't have a digital camera. I'm going to have to barrow one and take some picks next time it doesn't rain every 1 and a half days so I can wash my car.

    **Edit**
I will admit I'm kinda drunk right now and just wobbled out to measure my car, but I'm pretty sure my measurements were accurate =P

Re: sport springs not low enough!!!

so there is hope they might settle a little more? maybe 1/4-3/8 of an inch, that is what i have been praying for. because the box did say 35 mm. Which is a number in inches that rounds to 1.4 inch. I believe im at about 1.1 inches lowered in the back and 1.25 lowered in the front.

i am actually going home back to the bay area and then taking a day trip up to the snow which is like 3.5 hours but its w/e, i barley see the snow and haven't yet in my car so it should be fun.

so we will see in like a week if it settles more but i dont know if it will, it should because it hasn't dropped the front or the rear the full 1.4 in like it says its supposed to. either way its fine for me now, so much better then what it was. ill get some better pictures up after i get it washed.

Part of the problem is that a fender to ground measurement taken into account the tire size and inflation. If we measured from the center of the wheel to the fender lip then this wouldn't be a problem.

I ran 235/45-17 street tires and well worn 235/40-17 track tires. With the track tires installed the fender gap became larger but the fenderlip was closer to the ground by more than 1/2".

not even measuring the ground to fender it doesnt look much lower the stock sport. Which it should be like .75 in lower, maybe it is and i was just expecting it to be lower.

    Update: 40 psi in tires

    GROUND TO MIDDLE OF FENDER:

    rear passenger: 25.75 in
    rear driver: 26.00 in
    front passenger: 26.25 in
    front driver: 26.00 in

^^^^^^^^^ what is weird is that the rears used to be the same at 27.1 in ground to fender, how come the pass rear is now lower... btw the front pass was always higher im not sure why.
