it all depends on how you treat it, just like any other normal wear and tear item.
I have 105K on my stock clutch and it holds just fine, but I'll be happy if it lasts another 10-15k after I go Stage II+ though.

42k miles and two 6k RPM launches at the dragstrip. After the second launch you will get it into 2nd gear, but third gear will not work and the pedal will fall to the floor.

^^^ WOW. Guess I will never launch mine.

I launched my stage 2 STI at the strip about 20 times.(Launch Control - 4200 rpm - 11lbs boost.) I never had a problem like that.

Re: Stock clutch how long til they go?

My 05 almost has 40k, and it a was a lease originally before I bought it. In the snow I cant start in second itll die or if traffics rolling 2-5 mph I cant go in first I'll rev match second the car will act like its going to die. Starting in first gear is useless in snow. In deep snow when the tires slip, the clutch will slip too. Plus after driving it for a while if I try going up a hill itll die if I dont ride the clutch. Also I cant rev match, or the clutch will get soft/hot making the trans shift like ass. I must kill the car at least once a day while driving. Being that the car is so quiet I cant hear the engine at all. If I sit close enough so I dont kill it I'm to close to shift or drive normally. Ive smelt a faint burt oil/clutch smell since I bought it after drive the car hard or long. Audi had to fix a bum stock cat, and Audi says the smells the cat trying to burn off still?? Trans/clutch drives great first driving the car after its sat a while. Ill drive to work shift and drive fine the whole way to work, and ill pull in to back the car in and sure enough itl die on me..So Ill have to move the seat closer to back it in. Or Is this normal?

76,500 on my B6 Avant. I believe its stock i have only had the car 5 weeks. What are some common symptoms of a clutch going bad on these cars. i know i have replaced clutches on a subaru and an Isuzu trooper. oh and whats a rough cost? i know it was $500 on the Subaru but thats a different story.

Hey when you are in DEEP snow, and want to get out, turn off traction control if you don't want your clutch to burn.

What happens is that when you are in a snowbank and try to get out, traction control notices slippage of all the wheels and it tries to brake all wheels, while at the same time you are letting the clutch out and adding gas so as not to stall. All that ends up happening is that the clutch slips like mad and you get that burning smell. Once you turn off traction control you can get out like normal.

I just hit 50k last night on original clutch, it was a sad day to watch the warranty float away like that. But so far so good, no real slipping or anything I've noticed, but then again, a lot of people said their clutch went out on this forum without having any slipping prior.

The clutch on every S4 I've driven, including mine, is kinda vague and disconnected feeling. Let it out a little too fast with not giving it much gas and it'll die. It seems especially prone in reverse. On the bright side, that's not even remotely a sign of the car needing a new clutch and if anything is a sign that the clutch still has pretty good holding power

great tip. Something I'd never think of.

I've owned a couple of Audis (here in Canada) and have never been stuck though, so hopefully that continues! My IS300 on the other hand...yikes.

Thanks! I think if I get a catback it will help with not being to hear the engine rev up like im used too. With Audi trying to make the passenger cabin silent, and noise free it makes it hard to hear how much gas im giving or not giving.

52,000 on the old clutch and 12 miles on the new clutch. Currently getting a few new gears and syncos put in that were bad and noticed after the clutch was replaced. 04s seem to have a bigger problem than the 05 ans on for some reason. I am the third person I know around here with a new clutch at 50K. I was told you are supposed to change them at 55K.

My last car was a C5 A6 Tip and that thing gave me tranny problems also.

I tend to agree with you. Having said that I have 69k on an '04 S4 and the stock clutch - no slipping so far knock on wood.

why do you start in second...you have quattro thats unnecessary.....i dumped my clutch on a hill of about 25 degree slant in the snow, i only got to spin the tires for about 2 seconds, then the car started going up the hill...about three inches of untouched snow

its my only real gripe with the car... (second would be the whooping sound you get when you drive under 60mph with sunroof open.) however to answer the OP's question... original stock clutch, 46k.

I dont start in second ever cause it will die. Im just used to my mustang hay days where if your driving in rain or snow, and want to drive from a light without losing control you start in second. Its kinda hard to dump your clutch at a light or in traffic, also your driving 2.0T vs the 4.2 I let out the clutch at IDLE with that v8 torque, and it goes no where. We had 6-7 inches of UNTOUCHED snow Tuesday. Wasnt fun at all with those silly P6's. Ordering snow tires today, They changed our lil ice storm warning to another 6-10 inches by mid day friday. Good thing im off Friday...

I used sold VW's too, and any stick car has that same vagueness to the clutch. I cant tell you how many times I killed cars when I first started selling cars there. Its nice having an easy to operate clutch, but the vagueness sometimes is weird.

Well I could start it in second but requires slipping hell outta the clutch or keeping the rpms up to 3k or so. So I just choose not to now. Im used to V8 rwd cars with no traction, and leaving in second at idle with no issue.

Is your clutch slipping that bad or something? If I'm in the flat, I can start in second without getting about 1400 or so at max, and not really even slipping it all that much. If it's even slightly downhill it's even easier than that. I don't really ever do that, but I have so I know it can.

Just on a side note, did anyone else see the top gear with the vette where he started from a standing start in 6th all the way to it's 155 limiter (I think 5th actually isn't limited to 155, so you can go faster in 5th than in 6th stock, haha, not positive, but believe I heard that) .

Clutch on a 4.2l S4 is about $2,300.00 for a stock unit if a dealer does it.

88k, just had the clutch looked at while having some other work done to the car, it's got about 20% left. Having it replaced now to save on labor costs I'd have to pay to do it later.

Re: Stock clutch how long til they go?

I'm at 59k on the stock clutch.

Clutch has only slipped once after I was stopped at a red light. That was 300 miles ago! But it hasn't slipped since or displayed any symptoms.

I'm hoping that it was slipping due to condensation build up as I have been frequenting my local ski resort. It slipped the day after I had been skiing (at the first place I came to a stop at). That gave the car a 32F (16F to 48F) temperature shift in 12 hours.

51K on my 2005 B6. I've noticed light slippage intermittently, but overall it just doesn't feel strong. Waiting for the JHM clutch / flywheel combo to come out, and then I'm making the upgrade before I have to deal with the frustration of a breakdown.
