is any one running this " chip " ? it is not a flash it is an actual chip that has to be soldered into the ECU.

If you are what is there any supporting upgrades that are suppose to be done to the car like injectors and exhaust ? ?

    Re: GIAC 1.5 Chip

they make solder on chips for the B6? I thought the B5's were the last A4's they made those for. make sure it's for your car/ECU and not a B5.

cool, wasn't arguing with you, just had never heard of them personally.
it's likely just a stage 1 flash, but my guess is you will need to contact GIAC to verify exactly what program is on it.

Good luck, gonna watch this thread since i'm interested in how it turns out.

    Re: GIAC 1.5 Chip

oh i know u were not arguing, i called 2 speed shops that were on GIAC's web page that sell there products and they both told me that GIAC didnt make a chip like that. Then i google it and its says they do.

I emailed GIAC over a week and a half ago with no reply so tech support from them isn't really helping if there is a part number on the chip i will google it.

The car is flat from idle to 4k then takes off so im trying to find out what else might have to b on the car for it to work right

Had the car a yr now and only put 3k miles on it because i rode my GSXR most of the year, so now im noticing things with the car.

    Re: GIAC 1.5 Chip

well i got as far as taking the cover off the ECU and didnt need to go any farther the rivets holding the ECU cover on have never been touched.

Im just gone to assume the car is stock then and the dip shit that traded the car in had some one else's GIAC stuff in the glove box

don't know if manuals have a TCU, or if you even have a manual, but make sure your not looking at the tranny computer.

    Re: GIAC 1.5 Chip

Most likely it was for a ndbw PES T28 kit, GIAC had a 1.5 bar chip for that.

do what now ? it was a solder in chip and the ecu cover was not taken off so where did it get put in then ? ?

First off GIAC did not use a "solder on" chip. They used a encription board that plugged onto pins that were installed on the ecu board.

    It would look like this.

The sticker on the top of the chip that is installed onto the board would tell you what file was burned into the chip.

If the arm holding your ecu still has the rivets on it then your ecu most likely has never been removed to have a chip installed into it.

    Re: GIAC 1.5 Chip

GIAC was solder chipping up until 2002/03 or thereabouts so there are some 02 B6's with solder chips that never upgraded to the flash chips. This was prior to the release of the 1+ programs however so if your car has a chip that looks like the picture Mike posted then its a stage 1 chip without injector upgrades.

    Re: GIAC 1.5 Chip

So mystery solved ! I have the GIAC chip that is attached to the board. Pictures are in My Gallery

The chip reads AWE Bones <- I went to there web page then looked up dealers in the area, One dealer is the one i called about a week ago to ask if GIAC even made this kind of chip and they told me no the next closes was in Delaware

Chip also has AF28.0BA <- i googled it and got nothing so it might be something that is in the records for who ever put it in.

The chip also says for Off road use only not sure if thats a legal disclaimer or it has some other settings on it then what a standard 1.5 chip would

I am also wondering why the ECU cover has a line through it because most junk yards do that so they know it was there part. .. . .

On to my next problem, why the car just started to over heat on the way home yet no hoses are broke and the VAG - COM pulled no codes so im guessing thermostat

You have an GIAC chip installed be AWE and there is likely an installer there that tags his installs with "Bones" the tag is actually AF28.08a ... AF is the ECU code likely and the 08a is the type of encryptor (the board the chip sits in) specific to the 1.8t's.

Call AWE and talk with them directly.

    Re: GIAC 1.5 Chip

i called AWE they were not able to tell me what settings are on my chip by what was written on it. They suggested that i call GIAC so i emailed them and requested an upgrade to a new chip with the latest load.

Ill update this when they get back to me.
