I bought my A4 used, with the windows already tinted. The sides are o.k., but the rear is done poorly and needs to be re-tinted (not affixed at edges and pulled away from defroster lines). I might re-do all the windows (except the windshield), but my question is: what are the chances they won't f-up my defroster/antenna when they remove the rear tint?

There's a place that quoted me $100 for removal of the rear tint and re-applying. That seems low, plus, there were children crying in the background when I called. Seemed shady.

Anyone know a good place in the Capital District (NY), other than Tint King (their estimate was high)?

To remove rear window tint try and find the best place in the area that wont take short cuts. There are ways to get it all off and then there are the right ways to get it all off and not destroy the defrost lines.

what did tint king say the price would be. i know a freind who had his tints taken off there after he bought his car because they were to dark and he kept getting tickets. i dont know what he payed. but he had no problems. and than when i bought my s4 i had them tint the windows on it and they did an amazing job.

They wanted $200 for just the rear window and $450 for all five windows - removal and re-tint. That seems high to me, but maybe it's not.

don't go cheap, i'd rather pay extra 200 or 300.. for it to be done properly.. it's a car you're going to keep and develope feelings for... basically the cheap places use cheap tools, thus taking shortcuts like everyone says.

come to jersey, ill tint it for 50 bucks. removal is pretty easy, my i tinted my moms camry and she didnt like it, so when i took the tint off the rear window i peeled the corner slightly, and slowly but carefully took off the tint using no water/heatgun or anything. just do it slowly and dont pull too hard.

Actually, I was thinking about doing it myself since it seems it wasn't put on very well, but if I screwed up my defroster I'd be pissed.

tinting isnt easy. if you have experience then good for you. tinting the rear window is extremely hard because of all the curves in the window. my advice is heat the film from the outside onto the window, it'll make things much easier. and you would have to buy the film online, pep boys etc cheap film only has a height of 20 something inches i believe

Well, I had enough trouble de-badging; I'm sure tinting is way over my head.

$450 is pretty high for tint... some may argue there are variations in quality which may attribute to the cost...but to put it in perspective I got my car fully tinted for $175.

The removel may take some time...But I still think it's a bit pricey.

I'm with Howard. I got my whole car tinted for $160 by a guy that's been doing tinting since I was in elementary school. He said if I ever needed like a side redone due to something of my own fault (he gives a lifetime warranty for bubbling/peeling etc), he would only charge me like $40. So that $450 seems a bit too high for a tint job. Call around. Maybe post something in your regional forum as well.

got mine done all 5 windows 15%. cost me 200 cash from a really sketchy place. Seems like a lot of tint places are a sketch. they tend to do a lot of cash jobs with no receipts, nature of the biz. if you go with a nice place it will cost you

$450 is ungodly expensive. Unless your rollin lambo+ why would anyone pay that?
