    B5 footwells differ from '97-'99??

Was trying to order floor mats at the dealership and was told that the rubber ones aren't available for my '97. Was told, " '99 and up only" . When I asked why a set of '99s wouldn't fit my '97, I was told they were different sizes. Now I own one of each- a '97 and a '99.5 and I could swear that the mats and the footwells were exactly the same. Am I crazy or just another example of a guy at a dealership that doesn't know what he's talking about and won't make any effort to check.
By the way my '97 isn't here for me to check.

The fronts are the same - the rears are different. I have a 98 and ordered a set of original A4 one's off ebay and they fit fine. never put in the rears since no one ever sits back there, so can't say what the difference is, besides maybe the hold down spots.

I asked the same question a long time ago, I even went as far as having a guy in a 99.5+ measure his footwell and hold down locations

The only difference in the front is the clips that hold the mats down.

Yep, different clips, but you can swap the clips over from your old style mats to the new ones. Also, the rear floor mats for 99.5+ have clips where as the older ones dont, but you simply don't clip them to anything.

Apparently I have facelift "monster mats", b/c my rears have the peg holes in them. The fronts fit perfect, the rears are fine, just not held in place.

I never knew there was a difference.

    Rubber mats FTW though.
