    Re: Good Snow tires

oting compare to the nokian hakialitta seriously worth the premium you will pay, there is no comparing blizzaks or any conti's out on the market. I lived on top of a unplowed mountain road in evergreen colorado and my roomate in a 4 runner got stuck multiple times not once did I have a problem uphill or downhill

    Re: Good Snow tires

I've had some Blizzak LM somethings, some Nokian Hakkapeliittas, and I currently have some Dunlop Wintersport M3s.

The Blizzaks were great in snow and decent on ice but they felt greasy on dry highways.

The Nokians were like driving a tank in the snow and were great on ice. Dry road performance was good as well.

I haven't put the Dunlops through the wintery paces but I have a 10 hour drive through PA and MI this weekend. They're nice and stable on the highway in the 40deg weather we've had recently.

    Re: Good Snow tires

Nokian's all the way... they're like Splattj said, its like driving a tank on ice and snow. I hate using them on dry roads tho cuz they wear faster but have decent traction for that as well.

one more thing on the haki's the tread pattern is Bad A** and we all like to leave cool marks in the parking lots. Dont get me wrong Im not hating on the blizzaks but if they are within $50.00 of the hakis go nokian you will not be dissapointed. Worked out well up in Vail this weekend in foot of snow!!

chalk up another vote for Nokian Haka 4's!!!

the ONE time i got stuck last winter, there was litterally 3 feet of snow in the parking lot when i was leaving work. and im on coilovers so i got high centered. when a lifted cummins hookd up to me to pull me out he got stuck too. had to have a CAT loader pull me out.

other than that, my car is a tank like no other

    Re: Good Snow tires

I've had a set of Blizzak LM22s. Did a good job. I'm now on my second set of Goodyear Eagle Ultra Grip GW3s. I don't need to deal with lots of deep snow. Roads are typically plowed around here. These do really well. I was first recommended these when I found out it was the tire of choice by the state highway patrol and several local police departments for their cruisers. I've had no problems getting around for several years. Good price too.

Go Nokian Hakka 5 of go home!! Living in Montreal, we get our share of snow, and I have tried many different tires, so far these have been the best. Look at it this way, avoiding an accident is worth the few hundred bucks you spend. Happy snow driving!

all around tires to get are: Conti TS810, Dunlop 3D, Alpin Pa3.
    LM25 are terrible on dry.
My other car has Alpin PA2s and quattro has X-Ice (undersized) since I drive it on ice, slush, deep snow.

Whereabouts are you driving mostly? If it's just Manhattan and close by, you may not need them with Quattro and decent all-seasons. More discussion here:

I've heard great things about Nokians, so I don't think you can go wrong with those. I've seen the Dunlop SP Wintersports and they do look very nice & sticky. I've run Toyo Observe G02s with average results. I'm currently using Blizzak LM-22s and they're fantastic!

    i concur!

i had those on my B5. for my summer tires. in the winter they were worthless. the only time i've ever slid off the road in any car of mine it was with those tires

    Re: Good Snow tires

Have dunlop wintersport 3D, on Long island don't get tons of snow, so these are a great compromise since the dry performance is respectable for a winter tire, and they are great in a few inches of snow, much better than all seasons. On a few trips to upstate and vermont last year, they were great. Looking to get either another set of dunlop 3Ds or Goodyear Ultragrip Gw3 for my new Passat variant 4Motion. Heard good things about the goodyears have yet to try them.

if you are driving in an area with alot of snow, you may want to consider 'real snow tires' instead of winter performance tires. For me , winter performance tires are just what i need.

Mastercraft Glacier Grip II's. Cheap as hell, supper rugged tread pattern, and insane tread life. I'm on year 4 with mine and still going strong. For what it cost to put Blizzaks on my car, i could have gotten two sets of Mastercrafts with Steelies on em.

i LOVE my nokians! i was lucky to get them barely used. i highly recommend. i have to look at the tires, i can't remember exactly which ones..but they were the closest to snow tires without studs.
