Do I need a new battery?

My 2002 A4 wouldn't start last evening. Since it's hovering around 0F I'm working under the assumption it's the battery.

When I leave work at lunch I'm heading to Sears or wherever I can get a new battery, but I wanted to check here first to see if this car uses some "special" made-in-Ingolstadt-only unit, or if your basic Die-Hard will do.

I'd search first but I'm at work and don't have a lot of time to use the computer before I head to the auto shop in a couple of hours. Thanks in advance for being understanding and helpful.

i bought my car with a cheap walmart everstart battery and it starts fine every time. most people on here will probably recommend oem but IMO not necessary.

OEM is a heavier battery but not particularly special. I'm still on original battery and wondering when it's gonna die (pobably this summer since heat kills it, not really cold). You'll be OK with the normal choices.

    Motoza 1+ w/Genesis 380s, 034 HFC, K&N drop-in, 710N, Neuspeed snub, StopTech SS lines w/Hawk HPS, Conti DWS, full Votex, Pioneer FH-X700BT, DDM 35W 4500K HID

12/23/09 - My car has been phenomenal to me. Runs strong. Don't think I'm ever going to sell it. Rather throw $7k into it for a refresh than buy a new A4 that has no dipstick.
    12/5/10 - 100k miles & counting!
    9/22/13 - 146k+ & running strong w/a new TB, water pump, etc.

Thanks for everyone's reply. It looks as if I have my answer.

By the way, since the car stranded my wife at work she was convinced we need a new car. I should have just agreed with her.

If the dealers price is close to a aftermarket I would get the Audi brand. When I had to get mine it was about $20 difference.

No offense but typical. Does she even know what brand it is or does she just say it's a blue one?

Alright, new battery is in, all is well.

Nice metal bar that Audi positioned directly over the clamp retaining bolt though, sheeesh.

What nearly came right out was my L4/L5 disc as I hunched over the engine bay trying to pull up on the 150 pound battery!
