About 2 weeks ago I picked up a 1997 B5 1.8t FWD Automatic.
I picked it up for a fantastic price, because the owner thought the transmission was going to explode.
Here is the problem.
In DRIVE and or any other manually selected gear the car shifts perfectly fine. But as soon as you come to a stop and put the car in REVERSE the tranny makes a fairly audible ticking/clicking sound.
I guess what i am wondering is what part inside the transmission has failed. ?
I have done hours upon hours of research and have came up short for an answer. It seems as though people are baffled when it comes to auto transmissions.
I have already pulled the transmission and torque conveter out of the car. (BTW, the torque converter/pump and fluid are brand new, from the previous owner)
