    Quattro=FTW Bridgestone Potenzas=FTMFL!!!!

    First the good news....it has been raining pretty badly here lately in LA (for SoCal at least, I lived in Seattle for years so I'm not that phased) and the city isn't equipped for rain at all. The quattro was amazing! I got on it on a left turn into a puddle and it was amazing how well the car stuck it too the pavement.

    NOW the BAD NEWS....on the 405 S doing 70-75 and my brake light starts flashing....hmmm....then it goes off, then comes back on 30 sec later. I turn off the radio and I can hear the tires whopping (those who have had this happen know what I mean). So I immediately I get over to the shoulder and just as I pull over I hear a slight pop and then the sound of my tire hitting something (wheel well, wobbling on pavement, something) and then tons of smoke come out of my drivers side wheel well.

    Get out and check, and well I have a fucking blown front tire. Sidewall is completely destroyed, 2 holes and one slice that is about 12" long. Wait an hour for a tow truck, have to deal with a rude CHP that told me he could cite me for not having my seatbelt on (I was in the passenger seat, car off!!)

    Good thing I still have my AVUS wheels and tires, they are going on tomorrow until I get a new tire from bridgestone/tire rack....

    Same thing happened to me a month ago. Hit something on the highway and it punctured a hole through the tire. Side wall also gave out as a result of the tire loosing so much air that quick while still driving.

    Gotta be careful dude. I've seen some nasty accidents with some really nice cars when I lived there. People think that just because it's raining, like they can drive like it's dry. Rain out there is similar to snow in the East.

    I lived in LA for 3 years. I just moved to the east coast, and f'in damnit, I want to move back.

    true, it could've been something slicing the tire open. it also could have been low tire pressure that caused a blow out. I am going to the Audi dealership in an hour and hopefully then we can better diagnose what is wrong/make sure my rim isn't bent....

    Looking back I am sure glad I didn't sell my Avus wheels and tires! I need em right now!

    Weird, I've got Potenzas and they've been great! Which model are you running? Wonder if there was a problem with one of them, have you hit any bog potholes lately? Had my Goodyear Eagle F1 unravel on me a few weeks after I hit a pothole due to the damaged steel inside the tire, sould be what happened to yours. Or it could have been a damn nail...either way, sorry to hear it man, I know your pain

    I have the pole positions. I'm thinking I hit something on the road. It was raining and it's possible some debris got washed off the side of the road and more to the middle. I'll find out more when I go to the dealership. Like I said my e-brake light was going on and off....could that have anything to do with it?

    Could be anything from low break fluid to maybe whatever you hit hit the brake line too...did you notice any difference in the brake pedal feel? Not sure that those would exactly be connected, but would be a very weird coincidence, so probably. Definitely a question for the dealer though.

    Re: Quattro=FTW Bridgestone Potenzas=FTMFL!!!!

    sooo I have my avus rims back on, new pole position ordered, rim getting refinished. I took some pics and will try to put them up later. the crazy thing is the "tears" were on the outside, but then when I got the wheel off the entire inner tire was separated right at the wheel line...crazy.

    as far as the brake light, it turns out it was just a coincidence of low brake fluid. however, this coincidence might have saved me injury/more damage. When the light went off I immediately slowed down and got to the far right....if this hadn't happened and I had blown at full speed who knows what would have happened to me, the car, or others around!

    Great points! I think your final assessment is spot on...yesterday was actually a good day! car parts are so much easier to replace

    This post makes me wonder if my next tires should be run flats?
