Obviously you haven't been in a 10 sec car recently. They(LSx's) are relatively easy to work on, and maintenance is almost non existent, other than oil changes. You never have to worry about heat soak or lag. The Vette was gettin 28+ mpg on the highway, in stock form. Modded and >400whp it was getting 24-25mpg highway.
That Vette was about even with weight as my car, I just want that power and my drivetrain.
He's not going to be able to go LSx with his budget. (Unless he picks up a LS1 Camaro for 4k, parts it and keeps the drivetrain...)
Enough said.
Besides he said he wants carbs..
He's got a LOT of money in fabrication that he needs to keep in mind. The mounting of the engine and trani are going to be completely custom, he's going to have to cut the floorpan for the trani. He'll need to either go with a custom solid driveshaft to link the GM trani to the audi rear end (In which he'll need to go with some stronger CV joints as I can bet they are not strong enough for the job), or he'll need to go with a live axle rear end and do a bunch of custom work to get the audi suspension and such to work right (easier way is driveshaft method IMHO).
Thats going to be a lot in materials, time, and machining costs..
