RNS-E and the DIS - not getting RDS info

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Some of you have been following and helping tremendously with my RNS-E install. But I have a new issue and I know at least one other member having this as well.
When I swapped out the old Symphony unit for the RNS-E, I stopped getting the RDS radio station and song info on the DIS. The RNS-E has the information on it, but the DIS only says the station number, i.e. 104.3. No song and station info.
I recently VAGcom'd the RNS-E to get the Navigation info on it, which works great, and I know that the current value in Channel 62 is "21".

Does anyone know what the issue may be? I think I need PetrolDave to help here.

I was under the impression that you couldn't get song title/info the RDS display with the RNS-E...I could be wrong though.

Yeah, I'm having the same problem. I used to have RDS info (station name, song, etc.) display on the DIS. Once I switched out the Bose II to the RNS-E, I lost that functionality. The RDS info only displays when you are in the radio menu. Hopefully there's a way to get it back on the DIS. Any help would be appreciated.

Make sure your reception isnt set to "local" in the radio setup.

Can anyone help us out with the RDS data? Is anyone with an RNS-E getting RDS data in the DIS?

Alright guys i checked the DIS today for data. I switched to FM radio stations and the station name and number came up on the DIS. As far as song info (band and song), i did not get any of that information.

It's not possible with the RNS-E to have the song names on the DIS. Kinda sucks that you loose a feature from the symphony to RNS-E upgrade

Ok then. Thank you Joey and Cyrix for putting this to bed. At least I won't be chasing ghosts on this one.

Re: RNS-E and the DIS - not getting RDS info

This can't be that hard. Probably could be fixed by a new firmware upgrade if Audi was inclined.

I mean, if I can get song info from the MP3s I play on my RNS-E then it's possible to get RDS too. Right?

I would assume so. Its probably a small adjustment that has to be made via coding. Problem is i wouldnt know where to start.

Re: RNS-E and the DIS - not getting RDS info

What do you mean by "RDS Info"?
If you are getting the station name shown on the DIS, then that's all the RNS-E will do.

For some crazy reason Audi didn't include the software in the RNS-E to display other station information (like song titles or programme details) on the DIS, even though the Symphony etc can do that.

Well and that does it. Silly the songs or details wont show up on the RNS-E. Thanks for the help Dave.

Is it problem resolved? I just retrofit my to the latest 193 unit from SymII, the RDS is not shown up in the DIS, only the radio freq. but see both in the RNS-E screen. I got the Navigation working on DIS as well. Is it a known problem that Audi removed from the latest firmware?

You won't have the RDS in the DIS. There is nothing wrong with the settings that is a function of the radio. You will only get the station name and number that's it.

I don't even see the station name, only freq. number in the DIS, but RNS-E screen shows both. Is it a setting to get the station name in the DIS?

Yes, you need to change the value in adaptation channel 62 of the instruments at address 17, see the Ross-Tech Wiki http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index...8EC/8ED/8HE%29

Sorry I should have been clearer. The station name will appear with XM/sirius only, the frequency will show for FM/AM but the RNS-E will display the RDS for either.

I know its weird they didn't have it like it was with the Chorus. I think they got lazy with the software...like the Red DIS and the NAV displayed in it. You have to choose your route then shut the unit off and back on to get it to display. At least we don't have that!

That must be a "feature" of the US RNS-E software then, as with the EU RNS-E software the station name appears in the DIS if the station is transmitting RDS otherwise you just get the frequency.

    Adaptation Channel 62 currently is set to 21 ( +00001 = Radio (Optional); +00004 = Navigation (Optional); +00016 = Intrument Cluster)

I guess based on confirmation from Porschephd, the DIS won't get station name from FM in US model :-(

You are exactly correct. Just sign up for XM radio confirmed the station name in DIS.

I asked this question on audiforum.us - the reply confirmed that old versions of the RNS-E US software did used to display the FM station name in the DIS (as I had remembered) but this was deleted from the newer versions.

    Bad move Audi.
