    Bose-compatible aftermarket speakers!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was perusing Crutchfield's site and came across the new Infinity Kappa 62.9i speakers.

    http://www.crutchfield.com/p_108629I...ures_and_specs

They're 2-ohm speakers, so they should make a good direct-fit replacement for the Bose system, right?

I'm surprised people aren't all over this post. Haven't we been waiting forever for a decent Bose-compatible replacement speaker?

    Re: Bose-compatible aftermarket speakers?

So these should work just fine as a stock replacement with the Bose system, right?

    Re: Bose-compatible aftermarket speakers!

Note: These speakers don't use a standard 6-1/2" speaker bolt pattern — you'll have to drill new screw holes in either your vehicle or the included bracket in order to mount them in 6-1/2" speaker openings.

Straight from the link you provided.... I too wonder if these will work as a "plug-n-play" type speaker set. Besides the re-drilling of course

BTW - they are "out of stock" right now

    Re: Bose-compatible aftermarket speakers!

You are correct. The infinity kappa series are made specifically for OEM Replacement. JBL also does a great job with this. But who's asking right?

Good find. Just FYI, just because a speaker's power rating is "high" doesn't mean it will
    A. Sound good
    B. produce that power efficiently
    C. give you more bass

A general rule of thumb. This is really counter intuitive, but you'd rather overpower your speakers, (read it, that's ANY speaker), rather than under power it.

    Ex: 4 x 75watt amp RMS
You do NOT want to run: 6.5" component speakers rated at 125 watt RMS.

EX: 4x 100 watt amp RMS
YOu DO want to run : 6.5" component speakers rated at < (or equal to) 100 watt RMS

Your speakers will last longer, and sound better. Trust me.
My competition sound system in my A4 cost me 20 grand. I might know a thing a two about this.

A4 Moda speaks the truth. Its like running a tiny turbo on a large displacement engine, it just wont be right.

    Re: Bose-compatible aftermarket speakers!

Infinitys are great if you are in the "treble is the new bass" bandwagon. I ran kappa perfect subs and components for a long time thinking that I could tune the "tin" out of them. No, they always sound colored.

By the way, they are a two-way speaker... So, I imagine, there is a low pass filter in the stock amp for the stock mids in the doors, that would mean the tweeter in these two-ways would never see any audible signal.

So why buy a two-way speaker when half of it is useless???

I don't believe for a second that these would be a worthwhile replacement.

I've built 3 competition grade SQ systems if that comforts you.
