Exclamation stripped thread on oil filter mount

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Changing my filter & oil today, and the f'ing threads on the oil filter mount stripped. My bentley is not working at the moment. What are my options as far as fixing this without having to replace the whole damn cooler?

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

not alot you can do i dont think.

if it were the drain plug you could have re-tapped it.

the cooler is an easy job, but the part is probably $$$

The threaded post is a separate piece entirely. Just pull the big nut off from the bottom of the oil cooler then unscrew the threaded post, and screw in a new one.

Re: stripped thread on oil filter mount

Hey Guys, thank you for the quick responses. I was not paying attention to the angle at which I was installing my filter, and I think the filter may have not been tapped cleanly. I think the adapter is aluminum and the filter is steel. This is my first time I've stripped that damn thing.

Any pics available? Like I mentioned earlier, my Bentley on the computer is not functioning properly. Price? DIY assistance?

    Thank you again guys

You're going to need a new threaded insert. It's a pretty much going to be a dealer-only part but I'm guessing is should only be around $25.

    It should be #7 028115721

OP for future information you can call your local dealer and the parts department can look up the part number... believe it or not dealers really don't mark up small parts all that much in my experience.

Just call, describe the part, have them fax or email you the ETKA diagram, and order. I've done it many, many times in the past. The guys at my dealer are extremely helpful, just give it a chance.
