    lets talk tires/sizes..

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
i am getting a set of wheels that are 18x8.5 with an ET of 35. i would like to run a 40.255 however a bunch of people have been saying to just run a 35.255 to keep away from any rub issues. is anyone running a 255.40.18 on a dumped car with out issues? also what tires do you think i should go with? i am looking for something that has a really strong sidewall. i would like to keep the cost of each tire less than $200.

    thanks

    Re: lets talk tires/sizes..

You're more than likely rub... Even without a lowered car, as you'll need spacers on the front wheel to make the 255 tire clear the spindle. It all depends on the tire make and model though, as "section width" can vary quite a bit from it's "tread width". Tire rack posts both measurements from the manufacturers. Compare the section width of your 255 tire with the OEM-spec 235 (Conti's?) on the website and you'll have a good idea. I'm sure you know this already, but there is a reason the RS4 has wider fenders and lower off-set for it's 255 width tires.

255/40's in a B6 will look like Super Swampers. Go with a 255/35 if you think you need that much tire.

In my personal opinion, you should be fine running 255/35/18 on 18x8.5 ET35 wheel.

This opinion is based on my observation of how 255/35 tires (Toyo T1R and Vredestein Sessanta) looked on my 18x8.5 ET43 wheels. There was still plenty of room between the tire and the fender.

how did you like your vredestein's vs. your toyo's? the guys i got my wheels from is pushing me to get them.

I run 235/40/18ZR on my 18x8.5 ET 35.. I get great tire wear, almost 30K so far, and no issues what so ever. I'm not super dummped at about 25.5 ground to fender height.

jstahmann mentions several times that he successfully ran different 255/35 tires on his CHs (18x8.5 ET35) in the thread I posted above (2nd page).

Toyo T1R's were crap when compared to my GSD3's. Vredestein Sessanta tires were much better than T1R's, but still not as good as GSD3's.
