    building motor question.

    Hey everyone!

I am looking to go BT and have searched alot. I have a brand new motor in my car got replaced less then 10k miles. New clutch (upgraded) and flywheel put in at the same time as the motor. I am currently chipped with apr stage 1 but staying with apr is not a big thing. I have milltek exhaust and FMIC sitting waiting to be installed.

I know I will need upgraded brakes, will the 3.0 upgrade work or should I go larger? I think I plan on buying an elim kit but I have yet to decide on which kit I want to get. My question to you guys is this.

    1. Should I upgrade my motor with new rods and pistons? 20mm wristpin or just leave it stock. I want to do things the right way.

Building the motor all depends on the turbo application. You are jumping steps. What kind of power are you looking for? Ask yourself this, decide on a turbo and then you can start getting answers.

Like I said, I dont konw what turbo I am looking for. I guess ill put it this way, has anyone had any real trouble with their motors on an elim kit? kinda hoping for around 250-300awhp.. sorry forgot to metion the power I was looking for.. with those numbers would an elim kit be what I need to be looking at?

Short answer is yes. I made 244 awhp on the heartbreaker dynodynamics dyno. I will be upgrading from the old Uni 415cc file to the newer 630 file and hopefully that will get me to the 250awhp mark and beyond. A 71r elim will get you in that whp range. There are several other members making that kind of power reliably as well. There are several threads if you are willing to search.

I was thinking of that elim, but just wasnt sure. I think I may grab 7speeds (sorry dont know first names yet...). I talked to him about it awhile ago, but wanted to pay off my car first. Now I am ready to go BT

    Re: building motor question.

Go for it... with that turbo your internals should be fine especially if you have a freshly rebuilt engine with no compresion issues and an upgraded clutch. I would worry to much about the brake upgrade if you are just daily driving it. Perhaps some new rotors, performance pads, and fluid. What kind of FMIC do you have waiting in the wings since that could effect your turbo choices as well?

thanks for the info on the brakes. I will be running the ER Sport, I chose that because I read somewhere on here that the elim kits would great with the sport, but if everyone says no on it, then I will upgrade to the comp.

I believe you have been informed correctly on the FMIC and the sport should cool just fine. The comp would give you ability to move into the BAT catagory. I'm using the AWE FMIC so I can go eliminator in the future. Good luck with everything and post a review when you get her all together.
