    Question first mods...

So I have a stock '04 1.8t tiptronic, non quattro, with the sport package, and i want to start with some small mods. I've been reading around on these forums learning and trying to figure out how to start modding. I'd like to hear some opinions on what i should start with, the first thing right now will have to be under $300 due to being a college student and low on funds. I was thinking Forge Splitter valve, or Carbonio CAI, or maybe just start with cosmetics like rear lip and shark fin antenna... opinions??? Any and all will be appreciated!

Don't waste you money on performance mods if you're CVT. If you understood exactly how CVT's work and the stresses you'll be inducing on it in a performance application (outside of snowmobiles) you wouldn't do it.

Sell it and buy a quattro at least if you're going to do performance mods.

You don't have to listen to me though, ask around. How much does a CVT trans cost, or the TCM? Most of the CVT B6's I've seen have had issues.

So then a non-quattro only comes in CVT in '04, as far automatics go?? There aren't any small performance mods that are OK, and give it more power with a CVT??

maybe some mufflers? that's as far as I would go with a CVT, performance wise.

    Re: first mods...

I was actually thinking mufflers a few weeks ago, but then the response i got when i asked about it was that it was a waste of money and to just save up for a full exhaust system... Do anybody have any sound clips or videos of a b6 with just mufflers added???

Stick with cosmetic mods if you are going to keep the CVT to avoid expensive problems in the future. Even if you just do mufflers and splitter valve, it will sound good, but no performance gains. Not to mention, ever RICER will be trying to race you when they hear your car blow off. If you are going to keep this car, I would go with wheels and suspension for an aggressive stance.

Ummm... it should be on the window sticker details, also you will have quattro badges on the front grill, passenger side dash trim, and below the badge on the rear trunk. If you are feeling adventurous you can look under the car at your drive train.

Look under the rear of the car. If there is a diff, axles, and a driveshaft, then its AWD. If there's nothing, then FWD. Also, I think CVT displays 6 or 7 speeds when in the manual shifting mode, whereas Tiptronic is only 5 speeds
