hey folks, here is the deal my car died on me while driving on the highway. i tried to start it after, it would start run very poorly drop rpm, and die. Well now it wont start at all, but cranks normally. Ive checked all the hoses seem to be ok. could it be timing belt?
p.s anyone in the area wants to come with vag and scan me out?
    thanks

    Re: still Wont Start!!

head gasket, fuel line, bent valve?

if you dont smell gas, hear air pushing out of the block as it cranks, or hear the engine knock while its running then its none of the above.

check your alternator, ignition packs maybe

    Are you getting a CEL?
    Are you 1.8?
IF so, try changing the MAF

    that should do it.

Without a VAG it's tough though.

Other thing it might be is Coolent sensor or crank sensor.

I'd go to an auto supply store and have them pull the codes for you.........

    Re: still Wont Start!!

The engine MUST start and run if the following conditions exist:

There is a strong spark at the spark plugs when the engine is cranked.

There is normal fuel pressure at the fuel rail during cranking,

The injectors are opening and closing.

    The cam timing is correct

The compression pressure is above minimum spec.

The engine cylinders are not flooded with excessive raw gas.

The starter spins the engine fast enough during cranking.

Confirm the situation described above, one of the conditions won't be satisfactory, fix that and you are good to go.

    Re: still Wont Start!!

sounds exactly like what happened to me, had no fault codes, just died, then i would try to crank it and it would fire off for just a second then die again (turned out to be fuel pump)

tap on the fuel pump while trying to start it and if it fires for second then thats likely your issue.
