So...what happens when metal gets too cold?

For reference, its -5 outside right now and I was headed over to my friends house. As I accelerated, my car went from nice and quiet to John Deer status. Sh*t. It sounded like I was driving without an exhaust on. Get to my buddies place, look under, and sure enough, the exhaust had slid right off. I was able to manuever it back into place, but it was so loose and I couldnt get it to stay. Needless to say, its gonna be a long drive to work tomorrow where all my tools are. Ugh. Im thinking what happened is the cold made a space just big enough between the cat and the exhaust for it to pop off with the right amount of back pressure. oh well.

Assuming that everything in the system is made of the same metals/alloys the temperature should have nothing to do with it...since they have the same coefficients of expansion the fit will remain the same.

My guess is that it was already working itself loose and just happened to pop off tonight.
