Needle brightness knob broken, any ideas?

Sooo, I recently bought a 2000 S4 and realized that the needles don't light up.

I found out there is a knob that adjusts the brightness on the speedo... i was so excited to finally turn it on, but when i went to crank that sucka up the turning knob is seized or stuck.

My question is, when the knob is turned all the way to the left, are the needles' lighting off?? The knob on the right for the gauge lighting works fine.

I think I might just take off the cluster and see if I can see why the knob is stuck... or if I can bypass the wiring of the knob (probably just a variable resistor?)..

Has this happened to anyone else??? searches don't find anything.

Let me know if you guys have any ideas or experience with this. i want those pretty needles

The dimmer is on the trip odometer reset.

The only thing the knobs do are click left, click right, or press in.

The right knob rolls right or left to dim or brighten the illumination of the dash lights.

The knob on the left is like that, but the trip reset knob turns to adjust the brightness.

ahhh... so the left one isn't suppose to turn.... haha i see....

So my right knob turn and dims the only the gauge lighting (red), but the needles are always un-lit :(

Anyone have any ideas what's wrong with my needles? maybe a fuse or relay???

the knob on the left pulls out too and is for setting clock and date, or pressing it in while driving sets an alarm that will sound if you exceed the mph you are at when you press it in

Yup, and if you do it at 60MPH and don't realize what you did, you are gonna drive yourself crazy(more so if you don't have any pixels)

LOL, ya, Mine seem like they adjust themselves tho. I read in the manual for the car that they auto adjust

yeah when I found that out, I jacked mine up all the way. bright display ftw!

I read this last night and never knew that i could change the brightness of the gauges. So i went out there and tried it and DAMN those things get bright. I had to turn it back down because i felt like my face was glowing red lol.

okok.. i just showed you guys how to adjust the brightness now make it up to me and help me figure out why my needles don't light up!!!!

Don't know..I've had issues with a single needle being flakey, the battery needle, but not all at once...
