EGT's Difference between left and right

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
While putting my motor together i started installing the EGT's back and noticed that they both have same part number and both black

Now i know that there is left and right when you are buying new ones and one is black one is orange, they also have different part numbers.

Car ran fine with them on before engine pull and had no codes before turbo blew. I just took them off and didnt pay attention what is what. The question i have is will i run into problems with this or no? I'm going stage 3 and want everything to be mint when i start the car.

If you have two black box EGT sensors, they can be used on either side.

Re: EGT's Difference between left and right

i remember brian, from avalon motorsports, told me on the phone once that a few s4's were made with black egt sensors on both sides.

A majority of s4's were made with the one black and one brown/orange. IDK if they are interchangeable or side specific though.

I subscribed, wondering the same thing..

Re: EGT's Difference between left and right

That's a relief because i wasnt looking forward to spend another $300. They are both black, same part numbers and connectors are the same.

The stupid spyder hose all went to hell and i cant beleive that it's almost $160 for that stupid thing.

^ yea, same thing happened to me..the spider hose became soo brittle cause of the cold and it just snapped. I think there is an upgraded version you can get on ECStuning.com. It's made of the rubber hosing instead of the shit plastic.

I just looked up ECS and it looks the same as my. I guess it doesnt matter because it should last a while since it's new, this one lasted 8 years I just cant believe the price of it. I had to buy a new one for my 2.8 A4 and it was $54. It's almost the same size as the one in the S4.

on 2001.5's and up (i think) the passenger egts are red and the drivers are black... the difference is length of the wire and the connection to the car.

On my 01.5' my pass was orange and driver's black.

OP, what are the part #'s of your EGT's (F at the end I take it)? And when you had the black one mounted on the passenger's side, did it have enough slack that the line touched the manifold or anything else hot? What year is your car? Does your passenger side connector on the wiring harness, or the connector on the EGT sensor itself look to be modified in any way (it just looks like a driver's side one wouldn't fit in the passenger's side one without being modified)? Look at the first pic here.

I'm curious about this as well because I bought a "passenger side EGT" from a member here a month or so ago and when I went to install it for my dyno run last week I found out he'd sent me a driver's side F part number EGT and he's being rather uncooperative in correcting his mistake

Re: EGT's Difference between left and right

He's got a 2000. They use the same exact part number from left to right, both black, both the same size, they can go on either side. The newer cars use two different part numbers and all models now use the updated part numbers as replacements.

He is correct, both of them are same including part numbers, connectors and length.

I would assume it does matter for the newer S4's because there is a reason they madde a diff connector so you cant mess up. That's why i asked because i didnt know that in 2000 they made them same.

When you say "all models use the updated part #'s" do you mean that even 2000's use the orange one as well, or that the 2000's use 2 of the new driver's ones? If the former, how do they get them to fit the connector?

Has anyone ever modified a driver's side connector with a dremel to fit in the 2001.5 passenger side wiring harness connector?

Re: EGT's Difference between left and right

You should get the same part number for the two black box EGT's when replacing the pair on 2000's 078 919 529F. It *should* be listed as both left and right side. I've heard people having issues when they online order passenger and driver side for all model years, getting the wrong parts. The 2000's mount side by side at the back of the intake manifold, where as the newer ones I believe are piggy backed, so getting the correct part numbers is really important so that they fit.

People have just shaved off the keyed sensor to make it fit.

Re: EGT's Difference between left and right

Has anyone personally used a black driver's side EGT in lieu of an orange one mounted in the normal back-to-back position? If so, were there any issues?
