    Re: Shopping for SS kit

I have the neuspeed short shifter.

    I bought it after trying one out in a friend's B7 2.0T.

Besides a shorter throw, the shifter has a weightier feel, which is good.

There are times (e.g. cold weather) where the shifter can feel notchy and can sometimes difficult to engage first gear, sometimes even second. Nothing discouraging, and goes away after the car warms up some.

I have had several short shifters in a variety of cars and this one is better than the average.

    I would buy it again.

    Re: Shopping for SS kit

Also interested... I think the B7's shifter is really good, waaaay better than the 1.8t's stick from what I can remember. But there is room for improvement the throws should be a little shorter and notchier.

I don't have one myself, but my buddy has a Neuspeed short shifter and it's awesome. The throw is reduced so much it's ridiculous. It's almost too easy to shift. I can send you a quote on one if you'd like.

We have pivot bearings in our kits with adjustable reduction and also a 20% discount right now. That gets you a HyperShift for $199.20. Pete, Stratmosphere. 1.866.533.1777

I have the Stratmosphere and like it. It keeps the push down reverse and the overall height of the shifter (if you use the spacers). Really fluid and solid. And you can choose between the 20% and 40% reduction. I'm actually going to be removing it and selling it shortly; I, for some reason, just like the stock throw better.

    Re: Shopping for SS kit

i have a JHM and its been great.

Haven't tested/driven anything else besides JHM, two of my friends with an RS4 and S4 both have JHM SS, before me and recommended them, so did Matrix Integrated. So i took it from all of them and have not been disappointed.

I know spring rate and length of throw are adjustable. As for install i didnt do it, but i know a4mods.com has a DIY. looks like a 4-5 on a scale to 10.

    good luck with it.

JHM, no doubt. Just go look at their site and you'll quickly see the quality of their products and most importantly, all the products and services that they are trying to bring to the community. He seemed real nice, and helped call the shop to make sure it was installed right since they'd never done a JHM SS install before.

    Re: Shopping for SS kit

I also got a Strat. Bought it used, it does what it is supposed to do. More shift effort less throw. If its cold i will get more grind on the 2-3 upshift than the stock because of the decrease in shifting time. Also when its really cold, its really hard to get it into 1st, not sure if that's because I adjusted it wrong, or just part of the design.

Try adjusting it so it sits over to the left more. I've never had it grind before

Thats because it not rated to handle the VTG GT2 turbos you have on your car

First off, he said his boy had it, not him, so his turbos don't matter.

Secondly, I don't see how the metal rod that is the shifter or the bearing supporting it is at all affected by the type of turbos on the car. A shifter only changes how it feels for the driver. Shifters aren't "rated" to handle anything aside from the drivers own strength. The Hulk or Superman might have a hard time with the JHM shifter. But unless you can bend half inch steel with your bare hands, the JHM unit is "rated" for you and your applications...

The JHM is incredible. Instead of a shorter shifter, you're getting an entirely new shifter assembly which feels SO much better than stock. Audi should license the design from Jay and make it standard equipment. Just check out Jay's site and videos. He's the real deal and I'll always support.
