    Brakes On Fire!!!!!!!!!!!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I pull out from my friends house and release my e-brake and if felt like I was releasing nothing. No spring feel at all it just fell. So I drive 2 blocks away to my other buddys house and I feel something dragging. So I get out smell brakes and see my drivers side rear rotor is literally red hot! I'm pretty sure my e-brake is sticking so how do I get it to let go? Thanks guys!

you can release it by taking it off the caliper in the rear.

    Re: Brakes On Fire!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a common problem when the cold weather comes, but seeing you live in Miami idk what would cause it to happen to you, but just park your car in gear from now on until you get it fixed.

    Re: Brakes On Fire!!!!!!!!!!!!

just look at the rear of the caliper where the ebrake line attaches (has a ball on the end), its towards the center of the car. use a rod of some sort to leverage that arm up towards the roof (line pulls down towards ground when engaged and frozen).

    Re: Brakes On Fire!!!!!!!!!!!!

make sure you dont set your e-brake after some hard spireted driving. That can cause it to seize to the rotor sometimes

    Re: Brakes On Fire!!!!!!!!!!!!

All fixed now, I went to pick it up at my buddys house loaded with tools, and just made sure the handle was down and popped it in N and was able to easily roll it. I could see the part that you guys were talking about tho. Weird like thing to break.

We don't have cold enough weather here, but maybe this will work? Carry one in your trunk? They fire up in less than a second.

    Re: Brakes On Fire!!!!!!!!!!!!

I use a 2X2 ~2 feet long, and lever the ebrake arm on the caliper back opposite the direction the cable pulls, with the stick through the wheel, quick and always works.
