Very quick ?s on spray tint (taillights).

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I used VHT and tinted my led tails, got them clearcoated and they look good but it's too dark for my taste.

How would i go about lightening the tint? Can I just use 1000 grit, then 2000 grit sandpaper? (then of course, re-clearcoat them).

    Anyone with experience doing this?

    Thanks!

i doubt you could lighten them by just sanding. youll more than likely have to strip them down to stock and respray them. carkraft adhesive remover worked the balls to get rid of the niteshades i used on a buddys tails. but that was one hour after tinting them though...

I think you're right. I still have over half a can anyways...

Carkraft, hmm... you think that'll take off the clearcoat too? Is it dumb to think paint thinner will?

    Thanks again.

If they look good but are just too dark for you then it may be easier to trade them with someone for their stock pair and start over.

Dont use paint thinner, if you want to sand them you'll have to sand them down to original color\plastic\base otherwise you'll never get an even tint on both.

Re: Very quick ?s on spray tint (taillights).

I think my best bet is to strip them down and start over. Put a bit of work into these already (resistors and replacement LEDs).

Not sure if Canadian Tire has Carkraft, anyone know of an equivalent remover? I was thinking of going to Lordco and seeing what Gunk has to offer.

Ok, I won't use paint thinner, thanks.

Re: Very quick ?s on spray tint (taillights).

A quick google shows that most ppl will use laquer thinner to remove the spray. Unless someone has another unmentioned method, I'll be getting some tomorrow. I'll just mask it like I was spraying it so to minimize any possible damage.

    Thanks.
