It does not hurt anything if u have it off, however, it does block debris from bouncing around the undercarriage with it on...

+1 on that, if you are like me and like a clean engine then the belly pan you are talking about is a must.

If the roads are salted in your region, then the salt spray will get up in the engine compartment. And, the intercooler won't work as well, with the belly pan off, the pressure differential that helps air flow through the intercooler and radiator is effected.

Do you have any numbers on this?
I've not heard about this before.

No, I don't have any numbers, but the belly pan is part of the under-body aerodynamic treatment along with the plastic covering under the cabin. Without the belly pan, there is more turbulent air flow, and the air pressure in the engine compartment is higher than it is with the belly pan installed. The effect is speed related, as are all the aerodynamic features.

    Re: cover under the engine

the pan helps to clean up the underbody aero. Doesn't "hurt", but it was designed to use it. May create a little front end lift at higher speeds without it.

    Re: cover under the engine

Thanks everyone. I changed my oil and I wanted to check for leaks and didn't wanted to put it on yet. I wish I did cause its rainning really hard here and didn't want my engine bay to get all dirty. I live in So Cali

it looks as though it also cools the center diff while protecting the under carriage of the car.

    Re: cover under the engine

I ran logs with pan on and off. EVERY temp reading (IAT/EGT etc) was significantly lower with belly pan on. My intent wasn't seeing the belly pan difference; I actually just had it off to do some work and logged it. Then once I had everything together, the same day, same conditions, I logged again. Only change was belly pan.
After seeing the numbers (this was like 2 years ago?), I will never not run without the pan. There is just too much turbulance with it off and the airflow has to suck.
My 2004.5 APR Stage 3+ is SOLD
