    Weird noise this morning

I left the car parked outside, for the first time in the cold.

Turned on this morning, only to hear a weird noise (humming noise) coming from the front of the car (timing belt area).

I wormed the car up for 5min, and went for a 15min drive and the noise was still there.

It sound differs as you move the steering wheel, and disappears completely if you turn in all the way (either side).

Could it be the powers steering pump, or fluid?

    Re: Weird noise this morning

I actually had the same thing happen this weekend. First time in temp this low. Sounded like bearings around the fan / belt were all clunking around, loud, etc. Went away right before taking to the shop of course. Anyone know what's up?

Parked the car inside, and kept it worm, noise is gone.
It seems to happen when car is left outside in low temps...

Could be the secondary air pump. Secondary air pump is bolted on the rear top of the engine.
During startup it pumps air into the exhaust which helps burn off raw gas from the start up cycle's rich mixture. The pumps bearings go which gives the nice sound. Without a check code/light the pump is still working but getting ready to go.

    Issue? send me an email

When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.

I would say it's related to high-sulfur content in your gastro-intestinal system.

Seriously, though. I just had a fluid service done on the car (Oil, tranny, coolant, steering), and that noise went away. It was like a high pitched whine while the car was in idle, got slightly louder when pressing the gas, then subsided.

Had no idea what was causing it, so I brought it to the stealership to check it out. They called today saying they can't replicate the sound, and that they couldn't find any issues with my secondary pump, pcv valve, or anything.

So, now I have no idea what the problem is. No codes thrown to point me in the right direction either.

They say everything is a-ok. So perhaps it's a problem of the colder weather.

    Hopefully, that's all it is.

figured out the problem a while ago, forgot to update.

It was the power steering fluid, looked old and a bit low, so i replaced it, all is fine now. Noise is gone.
