Is it okay to do with stock parts...i.e. brakes, brake fluid, pads, tires, etc....

I just want to make sure before I go and do and break something...

I'm no expert but as long as you're not beating up your car too hard you'll be fine. Check fluid levels and tire pressure. Also, make sure to let things cool down before consecutive runs.

I ran on stock P6's, stock rotors and pads, but with Motul 5.1 and did fine. Sure it chews up the tires a bit, but not enough to worry about. Go get addicted, then upgrade accordingly.

Thanks for the advice. I'm just going to out there with all the stuff that is in my car now. I just had it serviced two weeks ago, so fluid levels should be okay.

autox is pretty easy on the car. you will only be driving hard for more or less 60 seconds depending on the course. our cars are pretty heavy and understeer a lot. make sure to raise the front tire pressure to avoid side wall rollover during hard cornering.

good luck and have fun. you will be addicted.

you only have coils, sway and an exhaust... coils were made more for street so I would say you'll do okay but just have fun... dont' think you should worry too much about how well you do compared to others... Personally I'd go chip it before I go there

Next time I will be chipped. I'm going to get chipped next week with GIAC-X. I'm just hoping to have a little fun tomorrow and see how a slightly moded audi competes with the other cars out there. And from the registration it looks like mainly Japanese cars.

    Re: Thinking About AutoCrossing Tomorrow...

With your setup you should be fine. You don't need to worry about your brakes fading too much since like someone said above, you will only be making short runs. If you were going to the track doing 20-30 minute sessions, it would be wise to upgrade your fluid to prevent it from boiling. You probably already know this, but make sure you drive your car around the paddock a little bit to make sure it's warmed up before you make your run. Other than that, have fun and be prepared to get addicted!

    Re: Thinking About AutoCrossing Tomorrow...

yea i did a road course (streets of willow) with stock brakes and those were 20 minute sessions. They really weren't THAT bad. Of course after a couple laps it starts fading, but in your case, you're doing autox, so you should be more than fine. Not really worth upgrading. If go more often and start getting better you could probably see a benefit by upgrading in the future

I've Autocrossed once, a search will pull up my pics. Pretty easy on the car since it's just a sprint. With my APR93, I ran in the ESP class. Having coils and the RS4 sway, you'll probably fair a bit better than me.

I went to my first autocross meet and lost to an old vw gti that was tuned to the max and a B5 S4 that had K04's like the RS4. I beat everyone else even those with more powerful, faster cars. The best thing to work on is the driver and not the car when you start out. I suggest you read this before you start: http://www.odr-scca.org/component/op...per/Itemid,59/. What autox event are you going to?

    Re: Thinking About AutoCrossing Tomorrow...

So I went out today. It was a lot of fun once I figured out how the course was supposed to be run. I had 6 runs. I requested an instructor to come with me for my first trip around the track. One did, too bad he was more of the track photog than anything else. He didn't really know where to go, so I didn't know where to go. I then decided to do the next two runs by myself. I went off course both times and got DNF'd. After a bit of a break, I had three more runs. I was determined to not get a DNF. I had a different instructor come with me this time and he showed me the track. He came along for the first two runs and I was on my own for the third. THe first time with him, learning the track I got 120 seconds. THe second time through with him, I remembered where to go and I shaved that down to 90 seconds. THe third time, I went on my own and knew where to go. I got my time around the course down to 83 seconds. The EVO's were running it in the mid 70', so for a novice I did pretty well considering I only had three runs where I was really competing. With another run, I know I could've shaved off another 5 or 6 seconds and gotten down to the high 70's.

I was pleased with the way the car handled. The one thing I would like for next time is better tires. Which brings me to my next question for you regular auto-xers. Could 18 or 19" rims on SUMMER tires be good for Autocrossing? That's what I'm thinking now. What are your thoughts?

    Re: Thinking About AutoCrossing Tomorrow...

Good write up. Glad to hear you had fun. Makes you wonder why there's so much excitement about going down a straight line.

I've done only a few, and it's amazing how much your times will drop between runs. Once we get better and go to more, a couple seconds will seem like an accomplishment. I have a couple planned in February and March at Citizen Bank Park and NJMP, can't wait.

And for tires, I plan on going with Falken RT-615's on VMR 18's RS4 reps for the Autox season. I know they suck in wet, but were the only high performance tire I liked with the XL load rating. Truth is with a good set of All-Seasons on my Ti rims, I never feel the need to have a summer tire for on and off track use.

Interesting. I guess that's why you always want to bring a big garden sprayer to cool them off between runs.
