    Rotors making noise...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So over the summer, as some can rememeber, I was in the position where the Audi dealer told me I needed new rear pads AND rotors... They wanted like $650 for it, and I said no way... Bought from German Auto Parts.com drilled and slotted rotors with ceramic pads... Ever since the rotors (as you drive) make a strange noise... Is that because since there drilled and slotted they naurally make this noise?? Since I cant stand the noise, and my front brakes will be soon up for new brakes, I plan to get new rotors and pads for the front and while am at will change out the rear rotors... If I switched to say just driled rotors will they still make noise when im just crusing (not on brakes) like these current ones do?

    Re: Rotors making noise...

I would check my brakes or have any "good" mechanic have a looksee @ the brakes if I were u. Brakes do not do anything untill it is time to stop and as such should not be making any noise period.

The braking noise that u describe however is another story:

    1) It is associated with cross drilled or slotted rotors. I LOVE the whirring noise that my Alcon rotors make under braking. It changes as the brakes warm up too during a long/high-speed stop. U can really FEEL the brakes bite harder.

    2) Also these rotors react much quicker in the rain as the surface is "self-cleaning" allowing it to shed water quicker.

    3) The selection of brake pads is crucial because the "cleansing" action of the cuts in the rotors create MUCH more brake dust. I clean my wheels every 2-3 days at the most.

    Re: Rotors making noise...

it can be little as a rock chip between the rotor/pad while putting it on. you couldve accidentally gotten a piece of rock in there. ive done it once on my friends honda prelude dont ask, i had the pads on the ground not thinking it would be a problem.

it would also be something loose..like the carrier or even the dust shield hitting against the rotor. seen it happen once

    Re: Rotors making noise...

It is most likely the slotted drilled rotors causing the noise as the pads pass over the drilled holes. I don't think you get this with just slotted though. I have Adam's dimpled and slotted on the rears and don't hear this noise but others have noticed a slight clicking noise while driving between buildings with the windows down.

    Re: Rotors making noise...

Well I had them installed by my Audi guy, and he just had my car two weeks ago and said everything was A-OK... The noise im getting is a whirring/clicking noise like you guys are describing... So I just wanted to make sure that was normal
