    CF door insert teaser (updated)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Well I just wanted to post a little teaser of the CF door inserts. It is going to take a lot of detailed trimming to get them to fit perfectly but that's what a dremel is for ........

The first picture is the most completed one I received but the rest will require a bit more work ...... ....... Once all the trimming is completed it's just a matter of having them cleared and polished. The belt line trim is the same but it is just dirty from sitting in the garage for over 7 months.

    UPDATED PICTURES IN POST #23

    Drivers side front:

    Passenger side front:

    Rears:

    Some quick teaser pics:

The attention to detail is great as the weave lines up on both sides of the car with the belt line trim as did all the other parts like the glove box handle, trunk trim and cup holder.

Unfortunately on this item, Terry told me there will be no more runs because it was very difficult to get the weave to lay correctly and this was like the third attempt. Once he is feeling better he may try again but as for now he said he would not duplicate the door inserts.

So for now they are one offs .........

That sucks. Nobody here in SA is even willing to try make stuff like that. I hate this country.

You could probably do this yourself. Just start working with fiberglass first as it is about the same but once you get good enough with the fiberglass that you don't need to use a lot of filler to make it right then start with some CF.

Just start off on some small projects first to get the feel of working with the material and then move on to other projects. Terry said he didn't know anything about CF when he started but he just didn't want to pay someone else to do it so he started messing around with it.

That actually sounds like a good idea. Will look into getting some of the materials here this weekend while i'm out and about.

All of your CF pieces would look great with a full black interior.

    Still original, I like.

if its still for sale when i get done with basic training i might seriously pick it up. I wouldn't want to see it go to someone with no appreciation for audis/the crazy work put into it.

It probably will still be available as I have not received any serious offers since I decided to sell it.

If anyone is interested in these inserts let me know as I am considering selling them. I would need your door inserts as a replacement for these plus some cash. PM me if you are interested and thanks,

I just figured that since I am trying to sell the car, these would make a nice addition to someone on the forums. The person who is interested in the car does not know about these so they don't have to go with the car but he knows about everything else as I have sent him many pictures.

Re: CF door insert teaser (updated)

Well here are some progress pictures of the door inserts. Today was the first cut and trim day and I forgot how much I hate cutting and sanding fiber glass, plastic, or now for the first time carbon fiber. It was a tedious day with the dremel and sander as I cut excess CF and resin to get it closer to the shape of the door.

The picture I posted yesterday was of a rear insert in a front door, so today are the correct configurations and some updated pictures. I will keep you posted of the progres and fit and finish but I think it is going to look great. In the picture below the insert is still a little big but I would rather take my time then to take off to much and be screwed.

In these last two pictures a piece of the door foam got in front of the CF in the back corner so it is not a mis-cut piece of trim as more trimming still needs to be done in order for it to fit better .......

I think theres a point when you have too much CF but then I think if you keep adding it balances it out and its ok lol. I think those inserts just complete it but it would be sweet to have a matching window switch cover.
