Thumbs up APR 93 Octane Reflash

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Guys, just got this done this morning on a 100% stock 2.0T. All I can say is holy shi#! The car is night/day difference! The car pulls strong from off idle to redline. I got the 2 program flash (93 octane and stock). Switching between is so easy its a joke. Anyone thinking about doing a reflash I highly recommend the APR tune.

I didn't have to upgrade mine when I flashed to APR. I have a 2005.5 model year.

No, at "stage1" you don't need it but when you go to "stage2" you might need it? On a side note my G/F has a 2007 Passat 2.0T auto and I let her drive it and she now is a little jealous.

    Re: APR 93 Octane Reflash

I have a 06 2.0T Tip, and 9K miles on it. THe only thing about this that worries me is the possibility of voiding the warranty. I have a 100K warranty on it and wouldn't want to put that at risk.

My question is, it seems that most that do the 91/93 flash, end up blowing the DV. Which means now either you replace it out of pocket with a Forge or another type, or you go to the dealer. Now APR says that these are undetectable by the dealer, is that true? I would think that a smart tech at the dealer would know how these work, and try doing the cruise control activation to see if you have a flash. SO now you need to the security lockout option to stop them from messing with it right?

I think the 600 or so to get the two programs, stock and 93 is a steal for the power that people report.

What if any other than the DV failure are the long term effects? Any other components that are prone to wearing out?

I have the 100K warranty. I serious doubt dealership techs are going and are that educated to search for that. Security option would solve that for sure. As far as the DV I'm been told mine will need to be replaced in the future.

    Re: APR 93 Octane Reflash

Can you change the program from stock to 93 while driving? Or do you have to follow a set procedure like being stopped, in Park and that sort of thing?

It's amazing that you can have this done via the ODB port.

I have gone from a 05 G35 6MT with 298hp/260tq and really miss the pull of it.

I'm hoping this will give back some of that with the 93 program, without sacrificing too much as far as future repairs from over-stressed components...

The DV I can live with as Ive heard even people on the stock tune have them replaced from them failing...

    Re: APR 93 Octane Reflash

You mention going either Revo or APR, but from a quick look between the two, it seems the APR is far easier to manage. Their cruise ctrl stalk method of switching programs, rather than having to plug something in which it seems like the Revo needs, looks much cleaner. Also with the Revo it says you can tailor the programs, or have user programs with different tunes or setups or something.

I just want to enter the 93 program and run...looks like APR for me huh?

The engine has to be off, so you're probably better off in park.

Does the dealership check the flash count when there is a warranty claim repair?

There's a thread out there from Mike@APR in which he states that when APR flashes your car, your flash count does NOT increase. I'm too lazy to search for the link.

If they do, it will be the same number of flashes that you had before you got your APR installed, so no worries there!
