fuck the asshat shitshack that designed this new oil cartridge system in the b7.

either should have stuck w/ the b6 a4 setup or gone the s4 route w/ the cartridge on top.

this bullshit of drain tools and cartridges torque'd tighter than vin diesel's pec's, is retarded.

I agree with the madrussian. The filter/canister system audi has this version is really stupid. I love audi but I think they over engineer some things and this is defenitly one of them.

To make life easier when doing your next oil change. Unplug the compressor sensor to get the filter out easier. And next time as well, use a bendable license plate to guide the oil into the drain pan. Thats what were doing at the dealership.

^^^^thanks for the tip. I agree that it turns a 15 min job into a 45 min one by the time i clean up all the oil.

Re: i just want to say...

I agree. I did my first oil change on mine and it took every bit of 45 minutes, then i walked across the shop to the Audi techs and asked what they did and they just said to use a bendable plate to guide the excessive oil out until their isn't much, if any, left, then just sit rags on the frame for the droppings. But don't forget to plug back in that compressor sensor if you take it off, or it'll be the hottest AC you'll ever had. Fair warning i accidently did that over the summer and lets just say it was the most unpleasent ride home until i looked back over what i did. Anywho, Audi isn't the only one's messing up oil cartrige designs, you should see the overengineering thats involved with GM's new line up's(im a tech for the GM line), yeah lets just say Covette's take 40 min (Z06's and ZR-1's take an hour), Hummer takes 50 minutes, and Caddy's drain plugs like to aim at the tires and make a sweet big mess. haha

Getting this before I change my oil next time. I changed mine about a week or two ago, and as soon as that cartridge came off, I swear a quart of oil just dropped from the sky. It's awful to clean up. I can only imagine if I didn't have soap/simple green.

Well the drain plug is same as any other car, the filter has a protective cap on the bottom, unscrew with your fingers and you will see an orange piece, this is the drain valve. Position the license plate below that and direct it to wherever you are draining it to. Take a screwdriver and push the orange piece up and to the side a little, it should get stuck to the side, if it doesn't keep trying. After all the oil drains from there, pop the orange thing back into place and unscrew the filter, I use a 36mm Axle nut socket to remove it. Hope this helps :D

Re: i just want to say...

Ok, The way I did it was get a cup and stick it under the filter. Press in the orange thing like subaru71 said. Once drained empty cup into the rest of ur oil that you have already drained. Now I found this alot easier removing the filter from the top using a common slide on oil filter wrench, once unscrewed grab with your hand and bring it out to the top, that way whatever is left inside the filter housing doesnt drip everywhere. Reinstall the same way. I also prefill the filter housing half way with clean oil before putting it in as it helps for the first cold start with a turbo charged car.

    Good luck.

Re: i just want to say...

oh man... what an ordeal. everything was fine except the oil in the filter. i couldn't press that orange thing in to drain the oil. do i just press in as hard as possible till it goes in and up? will i damage anything by doing so? is the flathead the best tool for that or should i use a philips as the hole is round? i tried with just a lil force once the filter was out and it wasn't budging.

anyways.. i just decided to take the filter out which was in a great location for the filter tool i had to access it. i had a bent lic plate underneath to catch and lead the oil into the pan. however, the filter slipped out of my hand once it was off and oil was everywhere. didn't expect it to be so heavy with oil. arggh! at least it's done.

if u r referring to the draining tool, save ur money. I have small hands and it is impossible to screw on the tool to the filter.
