    Hey,
Shopping for vagcom. I know there are a few placed online where they charge $350 such as:

    http://www.ross-tech.com/Merchant2/m...ry_Code=VAGCOM

But then if you really do some research can contact a place like this:

    http://www.obdtop.com/product_show.asp?product_id=65

Says that if you buy a few he'll sell for $40 a piece with v805.1 software.

They claim it works just as well, anyone have any suggestions or feedback on this topic?

I'd be very careful if I were you if you are planning to alter control module codes. You mess these up and it can be very difficult to code them back to OEM spec. You can also end up with unpredictable results which can be extremely difficult to diagnose and fix. The dealer is going to be very unhappy at the least if they have to fix a control module problem caused by this. They can also void your warranty. Are you sure you want to risk this with your beautiful, new $50k+ A4 Avant S-Line?

Have you personally used these cables before? Regardless of whether its a ross-tech cable or not you could still mess up control module codes if you're not careful.

I've personally used a canbus cable from them for my A3 and I've had no problems with it, including logging. The actual supplier for these cables is from here www.ecutool.com where you can buy single cables from them.

New to this but am very tech savvy. Been doing a lot of research on it and understand clearly the risks and don't have really any intention of changing much if anything other than resetting the service light. But there are some options that I may be interested in such as deactivating the seat belt jingle or volume reducing when reversing for example.

Spend the extra and get the Ross Tech cable, worth every penny.
