    My Body Kit Scrapes...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I just purchased an Ultrasport Avant with a Body Kit on it. The dilemma though is my body kit scrapes lightly, but only when I'm backing out of the driveway.

I go as slow as I can when backing out, and I go at an angle as well. I'm still trying to find that perfect way to back out so that it doesn't scrape, but in the meantime, are there any economic solutions to my problem? I'm not looking to raise my car or lower my driveway as I have seen for responses on other website forums. I'm looking for a cheap way that works well. Any recommendations?

if theres not one angle you can come out without scraping then look under the car, find where it scrapes and slap a piece of idk.... industrial grade velcro or something like that. just a suggestion.

buy a used splitter that you don't care to ruin. everytime you back out you'll scrape the splitter instead of your usp front. temporary fix until you level your driveway.

if he doesnt have one on there already, thats just going to make it so low that it rips the splitter off, and even a cheap splitter is not really cheap..this comment you make makes me wannaboom(and one more to forget you said this)

you are dumb and want someone to pay for a $20k s/c kit and sponsor your crappy car.

a splitter would not get ripped off it is an inch lower than the front and is secured tightly to the bumper you don't know what you're talking about. You can find a cheap used splitter for under $100. better idea then fuckin airride.

better than airride, but im sure wood costs less than the intentional destruction of $100..and how dont i know what im talking about? its nont like a splitter is bullet proof , that shit will crack and rip right off if it scrapes too hard

i use 2 peices of 3/4" plywood stepped together (bottom peice is 24"x12", top peice is 24"x 8") outside my garage so my wifes car doesn't scrape getting in and outa the garage. works perfect and is cheap and easy to replace if they get damaged.

As much as I hate to flaunt my splitter mod, it might be a good option. It might rip off, or you can at least cut it in half, so you have a lil cushion when you scrape so it doesnt hit the bottom of the bumper...

I am assuming that you don't have coils so adjusting the suspension isnt possible. A local guy here had a similar problem with a Bilstein/Eibach combo so he C&C machined 2 pucks that he inserted at the spring perch to give an extra 1/2" ride height without changing the suspension, worked perfectly.

I once rented a house where my Maxima would scrape just about every time due to the angle of the street, drainage goove(lowered section of concrete about 1/2-3/4" x12" along the curb) and the slope of the driveway. Although probably against several city codes, I got a cheap bag of quickcrete from Lowes and filled in the drainage groove along the curb (lowest spot) just enough so as to remedy the issue and still allow drainage along the curb. It was hardly noticable and the city never sait SH!t. Last time I drove by that house (like 3 yrs later) it was still there.

    Re: My Body Kit Scrapes...

i have an after market front and my car is lowered a lot so on flat ground i can't fit 2 fingers under the front bumper and my tires rub on my fenders if i turn sharp. And i have a large curb at the end of my driveway (which is a hill). Let's just say it takes practice, going very slow, and going pretty much completely sideways to pull it off. When i'm going out of my driveway i'm angled before my back wheels even touch the curb. And when i go into my driveway i start out parallel to the curb with one wheel on the curb. So it is possible, just keep practicing. You'll get it eventually. I used to scrape every time but i figured out how not to.

But if you don't want to scrape you can buy guards from ebay. My friend had some on his old integra that he dumped. I'm thinking about getting some because i scrape during regular driving when i hit potholes and little dips in the road.
