    OEM american made filter?

Changed oil on my friends B5 1.8 tonight. Picked up the filter at the dealer earlier. When I took of the Mann that was on there and took out the new one I was pretty surprised. This one had no branding at all and it didn't have the little knob thingy on the back cap. The box just said made in America. I was kind of disappointed. Did I miss something and Audi started going cheap with the filters?

    Re: OEM american made filter?

it may come as a surprise to you and many others but it still cost more to produce items in the USA than other countries, i would be concerned if it said made in China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Mexico, or other less industrialized countries. Just because it is not made in Germany does not mean it is not made to the same standards. Right now if your oil filter is made here it is a good thing.

We all chose a German car for the "feel" or because of quattro, or any number of reasons, but the little parts can be from where ever. as long as it is a OEM part and not a wal mart brand im happy that its made here.

    Re: OEM american made filter?

I was just always under the impression that the OEM stuff was made in germany. Infact, I know that the MANN that I took of was cause it said it on the side. I don't even know what brand that thing is that I put on. It seriously was just a black oil filter with no writing on it. I just figured people here would find it interesting. Especially seeing as people get crucified when they don't use the OEM filters. This thing looked and felt like a cheap POS.

I'm with Stampy on this - I wouldn't feel comfortable fitting an oil filter that was just plain black, no writing, and unbranded.

I could well spray any old filter black, then slap it into an OEM box...
