    400awhp challenge.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    The Rules:
    EVO 2.0-2.4L
    Subaru 2.0-2.5L
    No turbo size restriction
    No resctriction on engine internals
    91 octane pump gas
No water/meth injection or NOS allowed
3 back to back dyno pulls with no cooldown
    Shop cars are allowed

We are trying to prove a point here:
You can not make more than 400WHP on 91octane on a 4cyl turbo car.
need someone to prove me wrong!
please dont post any dyno graphs! they don't mean anything to me..
    http://allwheeljunkies.com/showthread.php?t=26749
They also said any 4cyl cars under 2.5L would be allowed.

A lot of people on here throw around numbers, wouldn't a 2.0L A4 with a gt30R or bigger turbo make that 400awhp without too much trouble? This kind of suprises me because I thought that evos and subbies could make that power on pump pretty easily... but I guess not. They posted it 3 weeks ago and nobody in the san diego area has showed up to dyno.

If you're in the san diego area just email them and tell them you want to do the 400awhp challenge and if you make over 400awhp, you get $250. If you don't, you're out $50 for 3 dyno runs.

I'd be willing to try if I had a BAT/2.0L.

Honestly though, they would have the advantage with using up to 2.5L, where we can only go up to 2.1L.

We can definitely make the 400awhp, problem is the octane or lack of W/M inj.

yes it is. Thats like the rest of the country trying to make that power using their 87 octane pump gas. Its just very hard to run any adv timing with 91 octane with a 30r or larger turbo pushing a good amount of boost.

My money is on a evo stroker or 2.5 liter Subey with an HTA3076 or 35r. The displacement is the only thing that will make up for the lack of timing and boost.

I will ask my friend Tom to see what his 2.3 stroker and 35r setup made on 91 octane, but lets just say it couldn't have been all that much seeing that he wont run anything lower then 100 octane now.

Has anyone begun experimenting with the TDI crank yet? Would a 2.1 GT30R on 93 pump be able to inch closer to that 400whp mark?

If I decide to keep my car, i may be delving into the TDI crank a bit more

Yes it's doable, the issue is not 93 it's 91. For anyone to put down 400whp on a 4 cyl regardless of if it's 2.5L on 91 craptane is a feat of feats.

So whats the limiting factor on displacement here? Cant we sleeve the cylinders and go custom? Mathematically if we could go up to 2.5L then we should easily hit the 400AWHP on 91 mark.

What about insane RPM's on a ridiculous turbo? Read like 9k RPM's with a turbo that makes its efficient power up there like 35R? That should get us the number... No?

Low boost high rpms is the way yes...

Sleeve a cast iron block that can already take an 83.5mm bore on 87mm bore spacing? Why?

Im just throwing q's out there...

    Thanks for answering them!

So bigger bore isnt really an option due to spacing... Stroke is the only answer and you can only stroke so much (that sounds bad...)

    Re: 400awhp challenge.

You wouldn't need a 2.2 you would need a bigger turbo with a smaller powerband. I would guess a hta86 would do it, a guy on http://forums.evolutionm.net/service...g-804-whp.html did 650 or so with pump and meth...I would think it would be possible with just that turbo with a well worked motor.

    Re: 400awhp challenge.

As others have stated, it is very doable with an Evo. Lots of fuel (big@ss injectors and a walbro or double pumper), lots of air (hta 35r), lots of flow (every supporting mod available), a wicked efficient head (Buschur or Cosi head), and a good tune. It's doable with the factory ecu but will be much easier using an AEM standalone. I have no doubt that this can be done on the stock block. Again, as Jeff and Toyotatech said, there will be a severely limited power band.

**Edit** It'll be close if that shop is using a standard calibration Dyno Dynamics or Mustang Dyno. This no sweat on a Dynapac or Dynojet.

The car just blew my mind as I am not leaning on it at all. This is the very first car I have tuned on pump gas using the HTA35r.

At only 29 psi of boost the car just made 533 whp on the straight 93 octane that Marque showed up here running. I have no idea where the gas is from.

Here. AMS went to Tuning Technologies to tune their Evo X on the dyno for an event being held in Las Vegas and the car had to be tuned on 91.

After a few pulls with the boost at 21psi the X was putting out 400whp on 91 octane with a very safe tune.
