Question about lug seats for Sportechnics

A few months ago I picked up a set of Sportechnics Mono 10's. They were mounted using my OEM lugs. Now I'm looking to get some spacers for the wheels to tighten up the look.

My question is in regards to the lug seats. I wasn't sure if I needed to get lugs with a conical or ball seat. I was told that the Sportechnics are conical but when I pulled a lug off last night, it looked clearly like a ball seat. Is it possible that it is a conical seat but because I stupidly used the OEM lugs the wheels formed to the shape under pressure? It doesn't look that way. It looks like a definate ball seat style wheel but I would imagine it's possible.

Also, just curious, anyone know anything about Sportechnics? I heard that the owners of Sportec split up and one kept the original company name and the other renamed his company Sportechnics and continued to make the Mono 10. Nothing too important. I just don't wanna look like an ass if someone asks and then they tell me that Sportechnics are a replica wheel or something.

Re: Question about lug seats for Sportechnics

IIRC, Sportechics are a Sportec replica wheel cast by Rays of Japan. Sportec CH had some serious issues w/ supply/demand some years back so the CA importer had some made by one of their suppliers. Obviously this caused issues with Sportec CH and this company was no longer the importer... The Rays wheels are lighter weight than the Sportec CH wheels (made by MIM of Italy) but are of good quality.

For my Sportec CH wheels I use longer non-stock lugs supplied by the manufacturer. They are different (ball vs. conical) than the stock lugs. The shape of the seat on the wheels is different as well. I would compare the stock and Sportechnic wheels lug seats to see if there is a difference.

    Hope this helps...

Hey man, thanks a lot. This does help. Another guy told me they're ball seat lugs. Same as a lot of OEM replicas. When I looked at the wheel yesterday it seemed pretty clear to be a ball seat. I'm pretty sure I'd be able to notice if I screwed em up by using the wrong lugs.

Good to know though. The only downside to my Sportechnics is the size (18x7.5). Love the 18" but not a fan of the width of the wheel. It was the only set they had left and I got a really good deal through a friend. They look fine from every angle except straight on from the back. Oh well, they'll work for now.

    Thanks again!
