    Ponder this one guys

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
A buddy of mine is doing a full on RS6 conversion to is S6 and it got me thinking. what is the possibility of taking the 6 speed tiptronic out of a new B7 and having it bolt up to the 1.8 in a B5. I know I would think I would need the TCU and what not but for fuel economy wise

    Just looking for thoughts.

    Re: Ponder this one guys

possibly easier than 5 speed swap? I dunno I'm fine with my 5 speed tip however should I look for another car sometime I would be sure to get back into a manual.

    all these will transfer over.

sell your car to a college girl and get a manual

i very seriously doubt the 2.0TFSI and the 1.8T have even close to the same bolt pattern/ torque converter pilot diameter.

okay thats the answer I was looking for. I am quite happy with my A4 thank you very much. I do not want a manual. Just looking for thoughts on the idea of swapping in a 6 speed tip into a 5 speed tip car.

    Thank you!

    Re: Ponder this one guys

that trans is huge, I'm not even sure if the tunnel would fit it. Unless you wanted to run an open dump exhaust out by the right front wheel.

Honestly I don't know if it would bolt up or not. I believe it would bolt up, however I don't know anything about Tip's when it comes to torque converters.

Think about the gas money you would save if you didn't do the swap.

I see no reason why it wouldn't fit. Just would have to get the right bell housing.

    Re: Ponder this one guys

It will bolt up - but you have a different mounting position of the trans and of the overall location of the trans/engine combo in the car. The engine and trans sit ~4-5" back into the car further than the b5-b6. The axles of the newer transmissions enter into the bell housing, not mid trans like earlier models. If the donor car falls in this category.

STOP and answer one question: Why do you want a 6 speed tip? That 6th gear will be useless unless you are on the highway. Is it just the thought of 6 is more then 5 so therefore better?

nope not the thought that 6 gears would be better then 5. It was a idea to be different but after further research I decided its not worth it. I wouldn't see a any difference and 6 would be useless unless I was on the highway doing above 120mph kindof like my bike
