    Big hunk of crap...

I'm not usually the one to give a bad review about a product, but damn, I can't hold this one back. So apon my install of my BT kit, I also ordered a Blinktek heat shield to go with my open air filter. Let me just say, this thing fell apart after I tried to adjust the shield twice. (pulling it out and putting it in a few times.) The rubber lining, all fell off on the back side, and the reflective foil that was probably glued on to the aluminum shield started to peel off.... Not only that, even after I fix all of these flaws, I try to fit the shield on there properly and securely. Guess what? It doesn't...the heat shield was touching the turbo and the test pipe, NO CAN DO. Either you let it rest against the turbo and testpipe to fit securely, or you can push it further left towards the intake area where it will just wobble around. Oh ofcourse, there is one little whole with the smallest zip tie in the back so you can secure this heat shield with.

Sorry Matt, but for 80-90 bucks and the amount of labor I put it in and trim the damn thing to work...I could have done this shit myself...

i bought Elliots $70(more like $2) heat shield with one sheet of household aluminum packed with melting plastic/rubber seal and same issue here we had to bend it a dozen diff. ways modify it to work.

We need to make a good heatshield.

Why are you running a open air filter? Just get a drop in and run the stock airbox...

Wow, I remember people swore up and down, that $90 bucks for that thing was a legitimate price. I kept saying the materials can be had for about $20-30 and with one afternoon of labor, you have a custom heat shield the way you want it.

You can do what I did...run the stock airbox with a K&N Drop in and cut the whole front of the airbox below the filter open...

I don't know, i like to splash around in the mud and snow every chance i get, my engine bay is FILTHY. i woudl be scraping handfuls of crap out of the airbox and cleaning that filter every other day if i did that. guess if i was cruzin down the strip in n. cali i wouldn't be worried about to much mud.

Sure. I wanted to keep the airbox anyway. Keep the OEM look of the engine bay but mucho power to the wheels.

The heatshields I used to make were the shizzznit.....I havent heard back from one person yet They bolted in place too.

manhertm, it would actually cost more thatn $20-$30 to fabricate those shields....the reflect-cloth is farrrr from cheap

    Re: Big hunk of crap...

Considering half of mine burned off already...

I might revert back to the stock airbox. We'll see. Hell I think I'm going to make one myself, so I can cover the top part as well.

    Re: Big hunk of crap...

i repeatedly posted in those heatshield threads asking for vagcom logs showing IATs before/after the heatshield to if there was actually any difference in IATs or if it just keeps the engine bay a little cooler, and the seller kept getting mad at me for asking. there was also quite a few people that mentioned fitament problems.

I was told that once the air hits the blades it's the same temp as the blades, no matter what the temp of the incoming air is.

I am not sure if there will be a big difference with your tune between stock air box and CAI.
