Right on. I just e-mailed them. I wasn't sure if their kit was out yet.

    Do you have one?

    Thanks for the reply.

Re: Dual Mass flywheel to single piece flywheel???

Last time I talked with them (July) they measured my dual mass flywheel to build a single mass unit. No idea if they finished it or not.

Well I will post what I find out. I didn't get to talk to them today but I should know something shortly. I am pretty sure the only issue was the trigger. I think you have to send them your old dual mass and they reuse the trigger. (If not it throws codes or something)

I just ordered that after sending them an OEM disc. Reline for $275.

As for the flywheel, when I talked to the guy at SB they said it wasn't quite ready yet--think he said a couple more months, but I could be wrong.

Re: Dual Mass flywheel to single piece flywheel???

i have a single mass from clutchmaster with their stage 3 clutch set up. You would have to mail out your flywheel to them and they would take this certain part off of it, put it on theirs, and ship it back within a day. Its pretty sweet how my car drives now.. i love it... and clutch feel is soooo close to stock. People have worried about clutch shatter, but i can barely hear it.... need windows down, stereo off, and even then my exhaust is to loud.

Re: Dual Mass flywheel to single piece flywheel???

    UPDATE
I talked to Southbend this morning and they have just finished installing the first prototype single mass flywheel and they installed it this week!!!! they said they would give me a call within the next day or so to let me know how the trial went. If everything goes well they will be ready to ship me out one asap. *crossing fingers*

They told me they machined the trigger into the flywheel instead of having a seperate piece and that they used a BMW pressure plate. Sounds very interesting. I will let you guys know what they tell me.

advantages: lighter weight, lower rotational mass, faster revving..

Disadvantages: possible chatter problem on our cars.

Very nice. Is the flywheel steel or aluminum?

Re: Dual Mass flywheel to single piece flywheel???

It's steel. It is a lighter than stock flywheel, I believe they are trying to make a more streetable but still performance oriented flywheel. (Less chatter and hard driving at low speed)

Dave has a very similar setup on his 350z and he says it drives great and revs up quickly.

Re: Dual Mass flywheel to single piece flywheel???

There is a downside to a lighter flywheel. When it revs up quickly that means it the rpms will drop that much faster inbetween shifts. Which consequently drops you that much farther down into the rpms when shifting. But then you get into gearing and how the tranny is geared.

Audi I believe did a great job in selecting the right gearing with the right mass of flywheel in respect to streetablity and chatter.

Can't wait to see a real world customer who daily drives their vehicle to come back with some feed back.

What was the weight of the flywheel before and after?

Re: Dual Mass flywheel to single piece flywheel???

Not really sure what the weight differrence is...but I think the major issue that the single piece flywheel adresses (IMO) is the dual mass setup. Less pieces to that can break.

I could be wrong but I think Southbend is trying to stay close to the original weight just slighty lighter. I will ask Dave over there and get a real answer soon.

Next week the Clutch kit should be in and we will know for sure what the characteristics are. hopefully good *fingers crossed*
