    Stereo Reception

    I know, I know.....been done to death.

Problem is I can't find my answer and I think it's different enough to warrant another thread.

    1. FM is great. Can pick up a lot of stations. AM blows. Nothing but static. I get static on FM only when I turn on my defrost just like everyone else and I'm sick of it and I want to get rid of it.

    2. I know I need a power antenna adapter. Can't find one that works. I have a Pioneer DEH-P770MP and on the back of the stereo there is a coax connection on the back of the stereo. Just like OEM. There is not a connecton to fit that RCA look a like connector. Am I new? Can I pull that connector off the adapter and get a coax connection?

    3. Rear speakers don't work....but that's a separate issue!

Any help would be awesome! Thanks guys

    Re: Stereo Reception

concert. Nope.....no harness. Cousin installed it for me before I knew all the quirks with Audi. Cut the old one's off and spliced 'em together. As trailer park as it gets. I'm actually thinking of changing it back so it's somewhat factory again......

    Re: Stereo Reception

Audi uses a booster for its radio antennas. There is a separate booster for both AM and FM. I am not sure of the exact wiring. But I am willing to bet, that by taking out the stock stereo, the relay to turn those antenna amplifiers on, is not on. You need to get a wiring schematic and look it over. Audi runs their antenna through the rear window glass defroster on the A4 if I remember correctly. On the avant it is through the antenna mast.

    ^^^ I'm aware of all of that....thanks!

This is what I'm doing.....I'll post if it works or not.

This will allow me to use the amplified adapter and still connect it to my head unit.

    Hopefully it works!

    Re: Stereo Reception

I had this problem for well over a year, and yesterday I decided to install that adapter from Crutchfield. And I went from no radio to having radio so I'm happy, but the reception still isn't at 100%. IF you find anything else that helps with the reception post it up!

    Re: Stereo Reception

If your windows are tinted, I've also heard that most aftermarket tints don't hurt FM reception, but drastically cut AM reception.

    Re: Stereo Reception

Ok....I know it took a while but winters in Ontario blow chunks. Today was the first day I could get this stuff done without freezing my stones off.

    2 things.

    1. Alternator Whine: I know it's a bit of work but this method works flawlessly. Not a hint of sound when RCA's are grounded this way.
    http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showth...ground+rca%27s

    2. Static from Defrost? Crutchfield Powered Booster works perfect. Wired it into the Accessory line and it works perfect. Stations were all I heard was static are crystal clear now. I'd recommend this to anyone.

For me.....this totally solved the problem. Now onto an Avic N4/N5

    Re: Stereo Reception

i've been told the static with the rear defrost is because of the FM booster going bad. It is in the rear c pillar next to the rear window. when you click the defrost on, it interfers with it.. because mine only does it to 1 radio station that i barely listen to, i'm not too worried about it. (it only does it on stations that are weak to pick up signal)

    Re: Stereo Reception

Could very well be.....this may be an alternate solution if it's too much work to fix the original.....
