Something crazy sounding from rear of car at idle?

Makes this low pitched wine/humming/buzzing in repetition (starts and stops every second), when car is just idling and sitting still. The sound will continue until the car is shut off and then sounds like it powers down with the car. The sound also gets louder when coming to a stop. Seems like something electrical? It is louder on the drivers side underneath the exhaust. Any thoughts?

x2 for fuel pump. that sounds like symptoms of a dying fuel pump. you can log your o2s and if they are tapering at the end thats one of the signs that it is on its way out

Damn I have love for this forum; quick replies all the time! yeah...I don't have much gas at all, been on empty a couple days now. Could that be the problem? Probably the pump though as I've heard it before. What do you guys recommend for a fuel pump? Can I upgrade? How hard is the install and how much am I looking to spend.

I would start by putting more fuel in the tank first and see if the sound goes away. As for replacements, there really is no need to upgrade the fuel pump unless you are stage 3 and beyond, also keep in mind that unless your ECU is setup for it, changing to a non-oem fuel pump will throw your mpg estimate off. If it is indeed your fuel pump that is dying and you don't feel like buying a brand new one, I do have one that I can sell if you are interested. It came off my car only because I went APR stage 3 (RS4 fuel pump included in the kit), not because it is broken or anything close to it.

First get some gas and see if that solves your problem. You could go with bosch's 044 fuel pump or a walbro.Do some research on it. Here is a upgraded fuel pump that VAST sells. http://vastperformance.com/shop/prod...products_id=39

Mine was doing the same thing last week, I put in fuel and the noise went away. Would this mean the pump is on its way out?

Mine sounds like that too, I'm pretty sure its a Walbro. It buzzes like a beehive in my backseat. Been doing it for a while now.

Re: Something crazy sounding from rear of car at idle?

a buzzing in the rear of the car is a classic Audi case of a bad fuel pump. My uncles old 100 was so bad that you had to turn the radio way up so it would drown out the sound.

Not your fuel pump, normal noise if you are low on gas. There is a transfer pump in these cars because the gas tank has to go over the axles. Fill up and see that the noise goes away.

I would have thought you had a upgraded pump being stage 3?

btw, you get a axle yet?

AWE doesnt sell a fuel pump in their kit since the stock one is enough to power to the injectors

My guess would be put gas in the car... and if not it could be your secondary air pump too
