    Re: What is this part?

That is the control for the auto headlight and coming home function. On Euro models, the halogen headlight manual range control adjustment knob is locate there too/instead.

It keeps your headlights on after you shut off your car to illuminate your passage home. Get it?

i dont get the point of having it...if it only keeps the lights running when you shut off the car? is it if you forgot the lights on?

No the headlights remain on, on a timer (which is what the knob controls), and shut off at when the timer is up.

    Re: What is this part?

No. Have you ever seen a newer mercedes or BMW or Audi? Cause when you turn the car off it's a function that sort of allows the headlights to cool down as well. Sort of like they have a warm up period, they stay on and slowly turn themselves off with a fade. They just stay on for about 30 seconds to a minute. That's what mercedes told us the feature was for when we bought our C230 sport.

And i guess that would be why only xenon's have it. Beause halogens don't warm up or cool down.

yep, it's a pretty cool feature actually. I like it on the mercedes. I think it looks cool too. Walk away from your car and lock it and the headlights fade away.

    Re: What is this part?

Actually on most of the Audi's the coming home feature uses the foglights. You use the little knob to turn it on and off. the light turn on when you unlock or lock the car and it's dark out. On B6's you had to have the lighting package (you have to have auto headlights for it to work) A lot of B7's have it with halogen lights.

    Re: What is this part?

oh, well yeah that's the one i got. It came on my car when i bought it. I like it cause it sits really low and it looks better IMO than the stock bumper. But then i also don't like it because it sits so low lol. I can't even fit 2 fingers underneath it on flat ground since the car is dropped. And it goes without saying that it's a bitch to try not to scrape. The previous owner cracked it on the bottom of the passenger side by the foglight :(.

So i want to upgrade to either the USP front with a kerscher splitter, or a oetty front. I'm leaning more towards the USP/Kerscher combo cause i like the look of the splitter a lot. I've never seen an oetty with a splitter.

    Re: What is this part?

in my 04 a4 its for foglights like mentioned, not for the headlights.. and when the coming/leaving home feature is on - when you unlock the car the fog lights turn on, and when you come home at night and turn the car off and open the door they turn on to illuminate the drive or walkway.... they stay on for about 30 seconds... i like the feature a lot as well with the 3000k hid fogs i put in.. it lights everything up on my driveway, looks real nice IMO... its great especially now when its cold out because you can see patches of ice on the driveway, or in the summer slugs/worms and hopefully spot the spider webs that form between houses and cars at night.. ugggghh i hate walking through a web late night when i get home

    Re: What is this part?

I'm not sure how much but you have to retrofit auto lights in addition to the thing that controls the coming home lights. Someone attempted it before and there was a thread about it. I don't think he succeeded though.
