Engine Block Replacement

Hi Everyone,
It has been a while since I was on last, but a recent issue presented itself and I wanted to see if anyone has either experienced this or heard of it..... check engine light has popped on intermitantly on my '04 3.0 and each time I turn my ignition off then back on, it is no longer lit up. Take the car to Audi for other routine maintenance and tell them of this....in their further research, they find that there is a missfire on the #2 cyl....apparently they tried a bunch of different things and were unable to stop it from happening....said it seems to be a possible coolant leak into the #2 cyl causing the issue.... the call I get the other day was that they are replacing the engine block and just ordered it through Audi... thankfully this is covered by my extended, but the project sounds quite extreme. Has anyone heard of this or experienced it?

They are replacing just the block or the entire engine?

as far as I know it is the engine block. His last VM to me was "your engine is on order" which i am assuming he meant the block. Odd right?

I can't speak for all dealers or shops but if this is a factory warranty claim, I would imagine that they ordered a complete crate engine to swap out with your existing (bad) engine. Most dealers don't have the time, inclination, or want to accept the liability that comes with rebuilding an engine. I also would not be surprised if Audi wants the old engine back for analysis purposes.

For what it's worth, swapping an engine isn't as extreme as it sounds. It's just a few nuts and bolts and a lot of wiring connectors and different hoses and lines. :)

and a new engine, so I guess I shouldnt be complaining lol. They gave me an '08 3.2 with 1,000 miles on it till I get mine back so it isnt all that bad :-)
