GIAC is sucking A**, what is trhe best K04 Flash?

I have a GIAC tune on a 03 1.8TQ with tip.

the injectors are upgraded
the turbo is a K04.

I find the giac tune sucks, the idle is not smooth and the car seems to run too rich, I still have to log it, but my other car has REVO with GTRS and 550 injectors kit on it and it runs smoother than this. WTF? Not feeling the love for Giac right now..... Any suggestions, I' thinking of REVO, but need to know how good is their K04 tune and should I change anything if I go to REVO.

Any opinons?

APR is pretty solid as long as you dont have an 02 model.. there was some people getting a random lean code on 1+ and k04 flashes but only if they had 2002 year cars

If you don't plan on going BT. I'd say APR. They have hours and $ poured into their R&D so there tunes are awesome.

as far as unitronic, I am not sold on them yet.

yes, you need the tt225 386cc injectors to have a smooth idle and start. PM manguyen for a good deal on a set

Best software for K04 is MTM.

APR is too timid and doesn't push the boost levels I'd like to see. Colin (GIAC) and I dyno'd 2 relatively similar K04 setups on race gas down in Cali over 3 years ago. They put out the same power but my cf's were MUCH lower. Go with revo. Never had a problem when I was running it. MTM is good but $$$...

no no, i think i phrased that wrong, Its an APR software issue. a lot of 02s that got 1+ or II flashes got some kind of lean code no matter what injector was used. there are some long threads on it if you search APR lean code, i dont know what the final solution or problem was but im apr with your injectors and no problems

with my stage 1+ apr, i got the lean code constantly. with the k04 file i never had a software related issue.

May I ask why you dont like Unitronic?

You can even get yourself a custom tune to how your car is running...ofcourse it requires logging and a bit of patience.

Thats odd... ive had no problem on my 1+ nor has my buddy. Our build dates were on the opposite side of the spectrum as for the 02's go. Wonder if APR fixed this problem already.... Someone should chime in with an 02 with a recent 1+ upgrade.

The car is my wife's so I am not too concerned about hitting max boost or peak 1/4 mile times, just a little pep for when I| drive it.

I like the tunability of the revo (sps) but I assume that is reserved more for BT, as for the set up I have now the previous owner had put TT225 (supposedly) injectors, they are not stock, but I cannot check them (unless anyone knows how I can identify them.

I have a apr dealer near me, and the tune costs about 600 Can dollars, any thoughts? good deal?

Well, as many people would tell you here, it's always better to go with whatever company is closer to you.

However, I would really highly recommend you contact Unitronic for a trial flash before you go jump with APR..

I have had a great deal of experience with Unitronic. Granted it was on TDI engines...but customer service, and quality of product is the same.
I was the most impressed with them compared with ALL the other TDI programers/products. The "headquarters" are in Montreal, dealers are allover the place.

i ran GIAC k04 for over 30k miles without issue software-wise...would check for unrelated hardware problems.

I had the GIAC flash for awhile for my K04. Pinging, cold start issues, part throttle hesitation. I run the APR flash now and I'm very happy. I don't feel it pulls any less (for a K04...)

giac k04- spike 20- 21 hold 19 lbs.... giac with n75H valve spike 22 lbs hold 20 -21.. no issues with software at all

I ran my K04 with a Revo tune. No problem with starts and idles, unless it was under 10 degrees F. I spiked at 25-26 and held at 21-22. I felt it was a great tune. To be honest the only reason I went with Revo was because when I got it E Code was offering a special of a free Forge 007 if you mailed in your ecu for a flash. I've been happy with it ever since going from stg 1 to stage 2 to stage 2 K04 and now to stg 3 with a 71r elim.

I agree from a preferance standpoint, however it is the wife's car, so whatever, I gave up getting her to drive MT.

The GIAC issue?

I find it sputters, it staggers a little on acceleration, it also has to start in cold (I'm in Montreal Canada so winters a a B!@#H). The power does surg a little but that's K04, |'m spoiled with my GTRS.

I just want to get it to run and idle and accelerate smoothly, with no rough idle or starts. any boost above 15psi is ample in this case.

Cars got 70K miles on it, I fixed some vibration coming from FMIC piping touching the frame, what would be the odds of the Motor mounts being shot? this could account for sokme of the "crappy idel feel" but not the sputtering.

No, but it will clean the MAF sensor, and eliminate issues associated from a dirty sensor. (IE- poor idle, hesitation, etc...)

If the MAF is not reading the air correctly, the fueling will be off

I have GIAC tune on my K04 setup with no problems. Ive been running it for over 40k miles and I would recommend my setup/tune to anyone.

I've been perfectly happy with GIAC. I've had various stages over the past 2 years and 30k miles. Never once had a software related issue.
