Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    I know, I know....SEARCH! Well I did but I still can't find the answer!

Can you put a couple of 8" or even one 10" sub in the rear deck? Has anyone tried this yet?

Yes. The wiring depends on your current stereo (Bose, non-Bose, aftermarket). Are you replacing the Bose sub if you have one? What kind of box do you want to build? How are you going to power the subs? Etc., etc., etc.

I've searched for this too and didn;t see anything. Maybe it's not nearly as common in the A4/S4 (B5/B6/B7), but I know for sure there is nothing in those forums. I'm interested in this though, post up those who got it

Again, the Bose system really changes how you approach the install. Also with subs you have to build a box in most cases (there are some open air models, but then there are issues with volumetric efficiency). Here is one example of a trunk mounted box.

    Re: Subs in rear deck?

Thanks for all of the info guys! I apprediate your time!

What I am really looking for is if anyone put subs on the rear deck/dash, right below the rear window.

The deck is big and I'm sure that you could put 1 or 2 subs on there, but I want to know if it has been done and how it sounds!!

    Re: Subs in rear deck?

Bass is non-directional so as long as your calculations for the volume of the enclosure are tuned correctly it will sound good.

A quick search did not turn up rear deck installs. Close:

I think the biggest issue is sealing the deck so everything mounts flat and nothing rattles. You want subs mounted on a solid surface.

    Re: Subs in rear deck?

personally i wouldnt do anything other then 6x9's in the rear deck. as mentioned you want subs bolted to a very solid surface. plus im not a big fan of open air ones. imo just put a nice smaller box in your trunk with 2 10s. if you really wanna do some work on the rear deck, add some 6x9s. i think you will get alot of rattling with subs on the rear deck.

    Re: Subs in rear deck?

id say you would have to do some re-enforcing of the deck if your putting 2 subs in it..i honestly think it wouldnt be too nice..your talking about cutting apart the metal under the deck to get them in there..that things would probably fold right in, and facing 2 bumpin subs directly at the rear window may not be a great idea considering i have 2 10's in the trunk and when they are turned up you can see the sunroof flex lol..but i guess nobody will know til they try
the mods..GIAC ECU chip, GIAC TIP chip, rear lip spoiler, mirror covers, H&R coilovers, Cold air intake, fog light grills painted to match and centers black, Debadged,19" EXE rims w/ falken tires, 2 10" polk subs in custom box, vinyled window trim, dynomat, painted calipers, custom cat back exhaust, cupra r splitter, window tint.....Full Widebody-installed ..soon to come tinted tails, maybe tinted headlights..Oh SO FRRESHHH

    Re: Subs in rear deck?

Lol, I see your points guys! I'm not looking for serious sounds, I just want to fill out the sound of my stock system a little better. Maybe some 6x9's would do. I really just wanted to get a decent 8" free-air sub just for a little bass. Nothing extreme!
