I LOVE canyon runs and I think they are totally amazing but every time I go I always get this invincible feeling and drive pretty damn hard on small roads high up with no guard rails. I guess this story kinda just puts me back to reality showing that stuff can go wrong up there and that your life can end right around a turn.

    Re: Canyon run gone bad

    makes me wanna cry...
My last boyfriend laid his R6 down on palomar recently and was so damn lucky he didnt get hurt although the bike is done...
Sad shit is that his friend almost died on the same mountain just a few months earlier on a bike. he was found in an embankment 2 days after his crash by a passer-by and he only survived because the hypothermia left his body in shock. he was expected not to live, and if he lived, he was expected to be paralyzed... luckily he lived and is well and walking.
*tears* please be careful out there boys.

yeah it was intense. he hit a boulder on his way down. he broke both arms and legs, a few vertebrae, lungs collapsed, among other things. he was not expected to live. no one can believe hes walking. yet hes already out riding his bike like a dumb ass again when he can barely walk.

    Re: Canyon run gone bad

Canyons are very unforgiving, so know your limits!
speed racers in the front of the pack, and cruisers in the back!

I miss the old days with my Integra, it was a go-cart up there! haha
but I sold the car, and no longer find myself craving for the canyons like I used to.

now that I think about it. I always ask myself "what the hell were you thinking?"
its totally not worth it! to me its not, because I didnt cruise canyons, I did cat and mouse runs. arhhhhhh scary! I get the chills thinking about it.

been through alot of crazy situations!
deer ran onto the road as I was "going" at it.
Subaru WRX flew off the side, he was pretty far down!
and I entered a turn at uncorrectable speeds, its must have been a problem area, because there was a safety curb which had many chunks broken off, and my Mugen wheel contributed to breaking more off that curb haha.

my life ending at the bottome of a canyon, or. a badly damaged mugen wheels?
At that point, the mugen was treated as a Rota wheel, I didnt give a damn about it. I was just glad I got to go home and see my family, sleep on my old bed, and shit in my own toilet.....hahaha thats Life.

I love taking it out to the canyons. But, you can't press your luck...ever. Gotta drive at 8/10ths out there.

It's sad to hear about that guy. But, being out there that late at night is just asking for something bad to happen.

canyon drives are to relax and watch the scenery not race like a bunch of idiots because u believe ur 2 dollar car can take the turn when it is obvious that THERE ARE NO RAILS!!!

ur car/bike can be replaced but u urself can't is it worth doing this for a few minutes of fun?

RIP dude whoever u r, hope ur proud of urself of what u did to ur FRIEND'S family the pain and suffering they have to go through now knowing their son who they saw a couple hours earlier is now gone, and will never come back.

Sorry for the harsh words but people must know their limits.

I for one love canyon runs...but knowing the road and one's limits is a big part of doing the runs safely.

    Re: Canyon run gone bad

Ive had 2 friends crash in the canyons (both cars got smushed), 1 of them rolled his 4 day old WRX with 4 people in it goin 35mph - all walked out. Another hit a railguard at 40mph in a 4 day old A4... luckly, if he didnt hit that railguard he would have fell 20ft down into a creek...weird stuff happens. Just gota know your limits.

So sad... As someone who drives the 74/Ortega canyon twice a day, I can attest to the need for caution. As much as it is aggravating when someone drives 25 mph in front of ya, it keeps people from driving like idiots on the highway.

ive driven the ortega a few times and I defiantly hate the slow people. I love the straights where you can haul ass and pass people :)
