its not that bad - far better than i expected. the car shifts incredibly fast and intuitively doesnt shift when you dont want it to.

Yeah - kinda what I was thinking.... You took a pic while you were going that fast. Careful man.

Regarding the speedo, they are supposed to be electronically limited to 155, but I thought I read in a magazine they can get up to 160+ before the limiter kicks in.

Re: New speed record (for me) in my B7 S4

I've hit the limiter. Very anticlimactic though...not like the car explodes, or slows down to a crawl. Just bounces there. Easy to get to by the way...!

    Mine showed 159.

I've checked speedo against GPS. It's always about 2-3mph optimistic (fast).

If you've had the limiter removed (a la MTM) what speed does the car get to? I want to say about 175mph but that's a guess. Anyone?

On the 6-speed MT with 235/35/18 tires....

    First - 3.667
    Second - 2.050
    Third - 1.462
    Fourth - 1.133
    Fifth - 0.919
    Sixth - 0.778
    Final Drive - 3.889

    Redline Speeds (7200 RPMS):
    First - 37
    Second - 66
    Third - 92
    Fourth - 119
    Fifth - 147

Well technically it's not a run-on sentence. A run-on sentence is when two independent clauses are smashed together (with or without punctuation between them). Since the second "half" of the OP's sentence isn't a clause on its own (because it's missing a subject), it's not a run-on sentence...it's just wrong :-)

A run-on sentence would be like:
the car shifts incredibly fast and intuitively it doesnt shift when you dont want it to.

I believe the B6's did not come with a limiter. Or at least mine didn't. I hit 181 mph in mine before i nearly shredded my front tires at El Mirage, California. There was probably another 300-500 rpms to go before redline so i don't exactly know the maximum speed on these cars. Im picking up some (Y) rated tires for next time and im gonna give it another try. This time i'll take a camera for documentation. All i gotta say is that the car remained smooth and glued to the ground. Didn't feel like i was going fast at all.

I dunno... I could believe 170 maybe, but 181? In this sedan? With somewhat mediocre drag coefficients and only 340 hp? 911s with more power and better drag coefficients struggle to get past 180...

Either way, getting anywhere near 180 takes some balls

I wouldn't say the B6 is mediocre in aerodynamic performance. Compared to the Porsche, if coarse the Porsche takes the lead, but compared to any other sedan of its class, the S4 is a work of art. Also, the 911 is a flat 6, compared to the S4's V8 that loves to live in the upper end of the powerband. The car undoubtedly reached above 175 with no struggle. But the speedo reads up to 160 with two more dashes indicating 165 and 170. I Don't recall since it has been awhile, but the car still had like 1k - 1.5k rpms left, and it still kept climbing without hesitation. I just got a bit nervouse once it started getting close to redline since ive never been at these speeds. The speedo kept climbing too, so judging the spacing of the dashes of 160-170, and the rate of climb of the tach, i guestimate that i was around 178-183 mph. Believe me though, the S4 (for being N/A wth 40 valves) gets up there with the quickness.

You can do any tire size. I did it on a calculator. I'm using that tire size right now so that's what I posted....

Im picking up some (Y) rated tires for next time and im gonna give it another try. This time i'll take a camera for documentation. All i gotta say is that the car remained smooth and glued to the ground. Didn't feel like i was going fast at all.
Was this in Tip or 6MT?

Did you buy it new or used?

The speedo error is typically 7-10%. Not like we need to do something other than pay attention at 150+, but if you reset your avg mph while you're moving along even at 80, it'll show you how far it's truly off. The digital display is more accurate than the speedo unfortunately.
