Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hello all, i was wondering if anyone has a B&M short throw shifter. i have heard that they are not good to put on VW cars but wanted to see if the rule applied to audis. if you do how does it compare to stock? was it worth the money you paid?

I was replacing the Trans, Clutch and did the whole JHM line of bushings, linkage and their short shifter. I've driven cars with ebay, my old B&M, Stratosphere, etc... and the JHM and Neuspeed (whole assemblies you drop in) are hands down way way beyond all others in quality and shifting capabilities. The ones on ebay now are identical to B&M, but I wouldn't say the quality is the same.

Is the JHM better than the Neuspeed? I would still like a shorter throw than the Neuspeed I have although it was tremendously better than stock.

Have you every used the Dieselgeek short shifter? that's the one that I run and it comes as the complete assembly, I'm just curious how it compares to those

Somewhere down the line I'll get the JHM linkage and bushings....

I currently run with a B&M and will be putting in the JHM SS soon. The B&M is better than stock, just not real smooth.

I got one from ECS for my MkIII Golf project. QUite happy with it. The TT community (AW/TT forum) is not to hot on the B&M hardware. Diesel Geek or or is your better bet.

Both, not as smooth as stock (shorter throws though) or as smooth as the JHM SS. The weighted shift knob from JHM has helped smooth things out a little on my current B&M SS.

    Re: Short Throw Shifters

The problem with most people is that they seem to have no knowledge of what actually helps the shifting mechanism. They think that reducing the length of the shaft is all it takes to make it all peachy. If you had reduced slop in a stock throw length you would never even bother to change it.

Unless all you care about is how low your shift knob is buried in your shiftboot.

I watched your video and like your product. To be honest, being new to the Audi community I had low expectations on your claims but seeing that you guys covered all of the weakpoints I am pretty impressed.

Too many aftermarket vendors have been getting away with ripping off the enthusiast community by selling half-assed products with misleading claims of the benefits. Any short shift kit that just shortens the length of the shaft should be removed from the market and the vendor should be reported to the BBB.

I'll be purchasing a shift kit through JHM in the next few months I think.

    Thank you.

We are enthusiasts first, business men second. We designed this shifter because WE were dissatisfied with how crappy the shifting assembly was. Our shifters are made with very tight tolerances to ensure everything works flawlessly. We take pride in our products - thank you for noticing.

a short shifter was the first mod I ever did on my car, and it got to my house an hour before I left for a 300mile trip. I installed it as soon as I got it and it worked perfectly.

It's not as easy as a retard can do it but definitely not as hard as changing a clutch. It's more easy as bolting on an exhaust not saying they are the same but identical as in you're only dealing with screws and bolts, no wiring or cutting of any sorts...just follow the DIY and you should be able to do it yourself.

Here's some pictures taken from my cell phone of my short throw shifter that I purchased on Ebay, it was fairly easy to install and works great never had a problem with it, even though it's an Ebay one it works fine I just wouldn't recommend it if you're a circuit driver or track rat, but for daily driving there's absolutely no problem with buying an Ebay one if it's got a good rep.

As you can see it dramatically shortened the shifter height compared to stock, the throws are pretty short too but not ridiculously short like you see on some Honda's
