Hybrid 55w reversing lamp bulbs.....

Well, seeing as it's dark, and reversing lights are never brilliant - I decided to create some hybrid bright reverse bulbs using by mating a H3 bulb with the base of a BA15S!

Here's the visual result - I've not had chance to put them in the car yet.......

Well here's a 'behind the scenes' view:



All I did was disassemble the base from the 21 watt lamp (smash the glass, and remove the innards!), solder the live wire of the H3 to the bottom connection - then ensure a secure earth connection of the two housings

interesting, i always wondered what two bulbs would look like if they had sex and a child was born haha

wow..ok...well, i hope you have extra fuses for when you blow the living hell out of the one that protects those lights...or if the fuse fails (ie. doesn't blow when you put over twice the designed load on it) a fire extinguisher to put out the flames caused by melted wiring.

i mean, i'd like to say it's a good idea, but it's not. i'm all about DIY and engimanerring stuff to work better than originally designed, but i'd lay money that the wires carrying power to the sockets for those bulbs were designed to be ok with 1.75 Amps but no more. running 4.5 Amps on that same wire will exceed the designed limit, causing it to heat past the melting point of the rubber shield, creating sparks, shorts, and then fires.

PLEASE don't do this. they've stopped making B7s now, so our cars are limited in numbers. if you want to destroy one by chucking on a BT package or some crazy airbag setup, fine, but don't kill one with reverse lights!
