    ESP and ABS light on..

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I know I have posted this before but I get this fault code once in a while that the abs light and ESP light turns on..
    01435 - Brake Pressure Sensor 1 (G201)
    35-10 - - - Intermittent

Is this to do anything with the vaccume? I got the light the very first time that I tried to troubleshoot my secondary air pump but putting my hand on it to check if the pump was sucking air. After I was finished the abs and ESP lights were both on.

This morning it was like 46F as soon as I turn the car on the lights came on but drove for like a mile turn off the car back on the lights were gone.

thanks for helping me out this forum is great.

Re: ESP and ABS light on..

First thing to check is the brake pedal switch!
My 05' w/ 50k miles had the same prob, the switch is like $10 at the dealer and fixed the problem. I took the switch out and it was totally messed up. Its a very common prob the dealer said

Re: ESP and ABS light on..

yea i found one but didnt look at it because when i bought the switch it came with a little picture guide of how to change.

    It real easy
Open your driver door and pop of the cover on the side of your lower dash, theres a few screws or clips there. then pop the lower dash peice of under the steering wheel and the brake switch it behind the brake pedal. Take it out and see if the plunger on the switch is working.

Take it out and check the plunger? Is it cheap to replace it?

Re: ESP and ABS light on..

    Hey guys,

I'm a newb but I just came across this very same problem today. It's ruined my day as my car is no longer under warranty and I am afraid paying someone to work on an audi is expensive.

My car pulls pretty dramatically to the left (from behind the wheel); I first noticed this behavior late last night. Today I take my car in for an oil change and when I get in the car the lights are on. I'm not blaming them, I am for the most part convinced this is pure coincidence. Anyway, now not sure what to do about the car. Clearly there is a malfunction as the car is pulling and brake/esp lights are on. More than likely not good to drive it this way long.

And as far as the audi dealerships...they don't seem to know much at all. Granted, they haven't seen the car yet but have about as much information as you do now. Geez...

    HELP!

I know this is old but I have the same code. Any closure on this? Going in for the coil recll soon and debating whether to buy the switch and try it or let them try not to cover under my ext warranty.

Abs on + brake light flashes/beeps or esp light on

Hi, I'm a newb (2002 A4 Quattro 1.8T with 133k miles). Other than getting frustrated as hell everytime the damn check engine light comes on or something beeps at me and finally getting tired of paying a mechanic thousands of dollars, I decided to dig out all my old auto tools (and of course, have to buy some new ones too) and get into the DIY mode. I appreciate everyone's help on this site, it's been very useful in successfully diagnosing and replacing MAF sensor, discovering vacuum hose split, changing the brake light and replacing the license plate harness...

Now, I have a brake issue, so hopefully someone can shed some light - I've read posts on similar topics where it could be as simple as the brake pedal switch, or as expensive as repairing the ABS module (I hope NOT)... I checked brake fluid level and it's fine, brakes works fine, but the ABS light comes on and the Brake light flashes and beeps 3 times about every 15 minutes or so when driving. Also, the above lights will disappear and the ESP light will come on and stay lit. It seems to be random, but I did notice the lights switched when I stepped on the brakes once, so not sure if it's my Brake Pedal Switch or what? I scanned for error codes and got 17700 (this code is always there - Map Controlled Engine Cooling Thermostat (F265): Open Circuit), 18057 (Data Bus Powertrain Missing message from ABS Control Module) and 18265 (Load Signal Error Message from Engine Contr). A few times while scanning the ABS section, it doesn't read the codes and says LINKING ERROR!

Any assistance is greatly appreciated, so I don't waste $300 getting the ABS module repaired by modulemaster.com

If ABS and ESP are on and BRAKE is flashing then ABS pump went. If its only intermittent 01435 what OP had then its just the pressure sensor, which is connected to ABS pump. I had the same code what OP had and simply disconnecting pressure sensor harness and connecting it back fixed the problem.

Thanks for the reply. Now this is weird - I just drove my son to work in the rain, no warning lights, got up to speed and slammed on the brakes a couple of times and never skidded at all, so ABS seems to be working fine. I did have that elbow vacuum hose split and probably ran the car a few days before I figured it out, so is it possible the vacuum problem had something to do with the brakes? Not sure how or if they're associated. I'll go out for a long test drive today and see if problem repeats and what error codes, but I didn't have the 01435. I did have the 01425 briefly, but only occurred once. I found another place online that does the ABS Mod repairs for $99 instead of the $300 modulemaster charges just in case... http://www.cheapabs.com

$99 is for b5 owners, b6 have 5.7 module, which cost $139. cheapabs.com seems pretty good. I actually even spoke with the owner, he seems really nice and knowledgeable

    Looks like abs module...

ABS Module repair, here we go... Unless you think it might be something else.

Test drove 15 minutes, okay, went to a movie, came out of movie theatre and lights on again continuously. Did a brake test without kids in car and got the back wheels to lock up. Got home and following error codes:

    Engine:

17700 – Map Controlled Engine Cooling Thermostat (F265): Open Circuit - any idea what this one is, it's always there
18057 – Data Bus Powertrain Missing message from ABS Control Module
17705 – Connection turbocharger - throttle valve pressure hose - not sure why this one comes and goes
    16955 – Cruise/Brake Switch (A) Circ Malfunction - new one, I haven't had before
    17522 – Bank1-Sensor2 Internal Resistant too High - new one, I haven't had before

    A/T:

    17087 – Torque Converter/Brake Switch B Circ Malfunction - new one, I haven't had before

    ABS: Linking Error!

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page place to decode fault codes. If there is no communication with ABS module than your pump is gone.

is the pump less expensive and easier to replace than the module?

This damn car has gremlins... Started rough this morning, but after revving it up, ran fine. No ABS or brake lights after driving kids to school and me to work. Checked error codes and am now able to read the ABS section and only have one code 18256 (Please check DTC Memory of engine ECU), Engine section has new codes of 17535 (Long Term Fuel Trim mult., Bank1 System too Rich) and 18057 (Data Bus Powertrain Missing message from ABS Control Module).

I'm about ready to punt and take it to the dealer to try to figure it all out as I want to get it fixed so I can sell it as I'm leaving to China for six months for work... Ugh.

Can you buy this pressure sensor on the abs pump at all??

BASARAB you get +1 imaginary rep for the unplugging an plugging back in idea. I did it the other day and it fixed my problem... twice in the past two days I would've been dead without my abs/traction control!

Could you let me know where the abs control module and the pressure sensor harness are located? I've been having the same problems.

I just went through this on my car. its possible to install the brake switch and not get it seated in there right, and that will make these lights com on as well.

Nope, cause I thought the same (bought 3 switches and was installing them in different ways). Only your brake lights will be lighten up if u installed it wrong.

If the plunger on the switch is too long (like on the one we ordered from Audi) the ECU freaks out that the brake switch and pressure switch are not in sync. triggers the abs light. The brake switch is an integral part of the esp system, and does more than just turn on the brake lights.

Would the abs/esp waring lights go away if the problem is the brake switch after replacing? Or do I have to clear the warning codes with vag?

I have the same problem but my abs and esp light only turns on after maybe the third time I brake hard. It stays in but will go away once I shut off the car and start it again. No blinking brake light or anything like that. So that wouldn't be the abs module right that's causing it right?

I have changed the break switch and went away couple months ago funny thing it came on yesterday but when I turn off the car it didn't come on. I'm thinking it could be the abs unit.

its obvious that this problem has occurred to a lot of people. I have also experienced this problem and it really bums me out whenever it turns on. in my case even if i brake slowly it comes on sometimes and both the ABS and ESP lights turn on. i have heard a couple of people say that their are sensors behind the brake rotors or something like that and if those get wet then that is what triggers both lights to turn on but as i said thats what i have heard. if someone could let all of us know exactly what is the problem that would be great. thanks for the help.

You are the man. Thats exactly when it started to happen for me. Very intermittent. When it happens I shut down the car and restart. then only the ESP light is on. Key cycle again and all good. Been trying to figure this out and I am glad I came upon this thread. Im sure thats the issue. Thanks again for finding that info and posting it here.
